We've been to WDW several times but have yet to ride Space Mountain with our 8 year old twin daughters due to the seating configuration and not being able to keep an arm around them. Have others had their smaller children on Space Mountain? Any thoughts? Thanks.

Just a quick note, I am leaving tonight to go to DisneyWorld again for the 3rd summer in a row. I have a 7 year old daughter, she rode space mountain at just turning 5 years old her first year, that is one of her favorite rides. I put her in the seat infront of me so I could see her and could hold her back if I needed to. I hope this helps some.. Take Care, Desiree:sohappy:

I too have 8 year old twin girls. They went on Space mountain with their cousins when they were 7. I didn't ride with them and I was nervous, but if they make the height requirement that is all that matters. Do you really think putting an arm around them is going to prevent them from falling out? My sister said this to me and told me to "get over it and stop worrying" so I did. My one daughter liked Tower of Terror but the other refused to go on it. The only ride they didn't want to go on was Rock-n-roll Roller Coaster because it went upside down. Take the clues from your kids. They'll let you know if they want to go on or not, but don't hold them back because you're nervous.

My cousin went on the ride when he was 8 years old and he loved it. But then again he had already been on TOT, RNR, Splash Mountain, and The Hulk Coaster @ 8. So parden my french, but he has balls for an 8 year old.

great points, copper! and may i add to that, take the clues from your kids...if they say they don't want to go on it, they DON'T want to go on it...period. now, i'm only 17 and i have no kids of my own (not planning on it for a LONG while), so obviously i'm no expert on how to raise kids, but i have experience with parents forcing kids on rides that they don't want to go on. if you force your kids to do something, they may like it, they may not. but it certainly leaves a not-so-great lasting impression on the kids when it comes to the parents (at least in my case it did, anyway) and personally, if i were a parent, i wouldn't want to risk that.

btw, copper, i'm sorry, but i just have to point this out....on Space Mountain, you can't put your arm around your kid, because there's only one person per seat....but i'm sure we all get your point!! :animwink:

My kids will ride anything that they are tall enough for! My daughter has ridden Space Mountain since she was 5, and actually doesn't really like it, because it isn't scary! Her brother first went on T of T at age 3 (nearly 4), he JUST made the height and no more. He is now 4 and can hardly wait for our holiday next week so that he can "fall down the big hole" again!! Take your lead from the kids - if they want to do it, and they are tall enough - then go for it! (I love them being like this - dad stands outside and holds the bags and I have company!!)

My six-year-old went on it fearlessly and LOVED it. My husband went on it right behind our son and HATED it. Go figure. If your eight-year-olds want to ride, let 'em - as long as it's their idea!

:p My kids have ALWAYS gone on every ride, since they met the height requirement! My husband loved the rides and went with them. I sat on a bench and held everyone's stuff for years, but finally got tired of sitting by myself waiting. I FINALLY started riding everything, and love all the rides, space, rnr, tot, thunder, test track, etc. Now I'm praying that my grandkids will like them too, as soon as they are big enough!

My son went on for the first time when he was 8; he loves Splash Mountain & BTM, but really doesn't like Space Mountain. He wasn't terrified or anything like that; he just doesn't like it. As others have said, take your cue from your child....if he/she really doesn't want to go on something potentially frightening, don't force the issue. (now, if he says he doesn't want to see something because it's "stupid", and everyone else wants to go, I do "force" him!)

Last year my 11 year old finally rode it and "found it boring" (when comparing it to six trips on RNR and four on Kraken). My 8 year old wouldn't touch it - I think its the dark. We're going next year, the 8 year old will be 10 and she still doesn't want to do it.
Good job everybody doesn't like the same things :hammer:

You can always ride the TTA with the child, and see their reaction.

You can say... "That looks scary" and if they agree, you have your answer.

I took my son on it when he was 5, just barely tall enough, and he loved it!!!! Of course I had gotten him on our wooden coaster here two summers before that so he was ready for it. Hope y'all have a great time.
