Space Mountain design

I will ask everyone to pardon my ignorance, but I've never looked this up. On the 60's sitcom "I Dream of Jeannie", there is a building at NASA that is shown on several episodes over the seasons. It is a large white, cone-shaped building and it looks very much like Space Mountain. Does this building have any connection to Space Mountain's design? Was it used as a model, or is it a strange coincidence? (Does anyone but me watch 60's sitcoms? :) )

I don't know, sadly I haven't seen that show for a long time.

As for the Space Mountain design...for a long time in development, it was going to be a dome shape, and not a cone shape like we see now, however I believe this was changed back in the 60's, so it's possible.

Interesting...do you have a screen grab of the building?

If anything, it was originally to be even more of a cone than it was finally built as, back in the mid 60-s Disneyland Space Port days.

The only version I recall seeing as a blue sky dome was Paris.

I will look at episodes on youtube to find a clip of the building, and then I will link it to this thread. I could not find a still shot on the internet. It is shown on several episodes, but I don't know which ones.

Hmm, I'm basing this on what I either read or heard in an interview once with an imagineer.........crap, now I'll have to figure out where I heard it ;)

Is this what you remember? It is the blockhouse (launch room) for Launch Complex 34 at Cape Canaveral. There are similar blockhouses associated with other launch pads as well. It was shaped this way to survive a catastrophe during liftoff.

Marty Sklar may have some information on this in the world that is google. Space Mountain was his baby. When I had dinner beside him, I wish I'd asked him that. It does resemble that photo above, I must say..

No, he was the VP of WED at the time. The building was designed by George McGinnis, John Hench and Roger Broggie Sr, the track by Bill Watkins.
