Disneyland has given an update on the timing - the Space Mountain refurbishment is scheduled to last until mid-Fall 2023.

Here's the statement from Disneyland.

Space Mountain will be closed for refurbishment, beginning September 18, 2023, and will reopen in mid-Fall, 2023.

It's amazing how now we know when maintenance happens.

The internet truly has spoiled us.

I remember my family going to Disneyland in 2003 and speed walking up to Space Mountain first thing for an employee standing there to tell us the ride was closed and won't be open for 2 more years!

Please be open again by my mid-October trip, please be open again by my mid-October trip...

They better at least fix all the lights in the MK impersonation tunnel!

Someone posted a POV to YouTube the other day in which, hilariously, none of the lights in the blue tunnel were functional/turned on. It’s possible a refurb is warranted.

Heading to the park tonight. Will be sure to ride this as well as OG Mansion before they go away for a while.

That was the case for all five days I was there in late July. I'm assuming there must be more to it than that, because it seems like they stopped caring about the lights about a decade ago.

Yikes, I was hoping it was a fluke. I wonder why that tunnel is so difficult to maintain.
I can't really give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. I mean, it's lights. If the often maintenance-allergic WDW doesn't seem to have trouble maintaining two very similar light tunnels on their Space Mountain, I can't imagine Disneyland has any real excuse other than that they don't care.

Especially since those tunnel lights seem like something that should be relatively easy to fix when the park is closed.

None of them were on when we were there the last weekend of July. It was total darkness. I'd never seen that before.

ETA: Sorry @PiratesMansion already said the same thing. Posted before reading fully. :banghead:

I was going to say, anecdotally I don’t recall MK’s Space having this issue. A few dead bulbs is not some disaster, but the presumed easy fix makes it all the more perplexing. And it really is a neat effect when it works.
