News Space Mountain closing for refurbishment in September 2023

I don't think it is. I'd wager they just forgot to turn them back on after Hyperspace Mountain ended. Can't say which scenario is more embarrassing.

The few lights that actually worked in the tunnel were turned on after Hyperspace Mountain this year.

This has been an ongoing, and progressively getting worse, issue since before the Covid Shutdown.

It's pretty embarrassing that a multi-billion dollar company can't replace a few light bulbs.

It can't be that difficult or expensive to replace a light bulb. Can it?

We’re going November 16th. If fall is 9/23-12/20, then “mid” fall would be like 11/4-11/11. That’s cutting it close!! Fingers crossed it’s back open when we’re there!!

I imagine you're more likely to have an open Space Mountain than I am, if it's any consolation (I'm going mid-October).

Something I was wondering about as I considered this news: when is the last time Space Mountain actually had a thorough refurbishment with a significant amount of downtime? It had its complete rebuild, it was down for a month or so around the time OSHA started mandating better fall-safe protections, but I can't recall any others.

It's embarrassing that maintenance doesn't happen more often.
Disneyland does a lot of long term maintenance. Matterhorn, Grizzly Rapids, and Splash, seem to be down for maintenance 2-3 months every year.

But some rides they really skimp out on like Indy and Space.

They skimped on Splash. Note how long the lighting and figures where broken in various scenes.

Someone posted a POV to YouTube the other day in which, hilariously, none of the lights in the blue tunnel were functional/turned on. It’s possible a refurb is warranted.
I rode today and same thing. Also… no fog effects on the lift hill for big thunder :(

Indy is in pretty good shape!

According to the Disneyland website, Space Mountain is set to reopen October 27.

Here's the update from Disneyland.

"Space Mountain will be closed for refurbishment, beginning September 18, 2023, and will reopen October 27, 2023."

Lol’d at the joke but feel sorry for @PiratesMansion. That’s a really weird time of year for Space to go down. It can’t be going down during the busiest time of year just to repair for those tunnel lights right?
It's probably the first refurb the ride has had in a long time, so I'm sure it's needed.

Not optimal timing for me personally, but I did get to ride it for five whole days this past summer, so I can't complain too much. I'm hoping that Indy's still in decent shape-it was great to ride that in such good condition back in July.

It IS a bit weird that the only major coaster at Disneyland Park that hasn't been down for a refurb during one of my visits EVER is the Matterhorn.

Oh that’s right I forgot you were just there. That’s a very weird coincidence on the Matterhorn.

Last I rode Indy 6 weeks ago it was in pretty good shape. The last refurb brought Indy back to life for me. Before the refurb it was something I did 1-2 times a year. I think it was a combination of the refurb + Splash closing down.
