Space Mountain 2.0

Space Mountain 2.0 is the redesigned Space Mountain at Disneyland. They redid the effects and added music and stuff, I think. Look in the Disneyland forum for more info.

Or, if you were referring to Space Mountain Mission 2 at Disneyland Paris, they also redesigned the ride and added new effects. Check the Disneyland Paris Resort forum for more info on that.

Happen at WDW.....maybe. That plan has it's supporters, from what I hear. The DL version has been quite a crowd pleaser and attendance booster.

Personally, I was VERY impressed with Space Mountain at DL. Everything (granted, it was new) was very nice, and I think I said "I wish they'd do that at WDW" about a dozen times :)

i know it's a referbishment.. but what did they change.

I haven't been on it (I was there about a month after it reopened, and the wait time was over 4 hours), but a friend went on it over Thanksgiving break. They said it is a huge improvement. The ride was smoother, darker, and the audio was a lot better. They were impressed by the huge improvement.

As people mentioned it was a complete redo of Space Mountain at Disneyland. While it kept the same track layout and many of the same elements, it was updated and redone. There is an all new soundtrack also that is part of it. It is a lot of fun and I have also said that I hope they do something like that at WDW.

Next spring the second phase of the SM refub will come online when they introduce Rock It Mountain. The ride will change over from Space to Rock It during the night/evenings and have a different soundtrack and more effects inside the mountain. You can see some props in there now as you ride that aren't being used at the moment and ready to go when Rock It Mountain debuts.

Where does your information come from? This would be awesome if it is true.

It's true and pretty common knowledge.
The sign out front is already set up to say "Rockit Mountain", and the lighting grids are visible during parts of the ride.

Didn't we see pictures on here somewhere of SM at DL being gutted and new track being installed? I know I've seen those pics before. I think they got new track but maybe kept the same track "path" of the old verson.

As Lee said, it is fairly widespread knowledge. You can see the "Rock It" part of the sign if the angle of the sun is right. They new park CDs also mentions the current ride soundtrack as being the "Daytime Version." I also think it is mentioned in the 2006 Birnbaum guide book.

I believe there were some pictures at some point floating around that showed the track being installed. It is all new track, but the same track layout and path.

Rock will happen, CM's at Disneyland have ridden it with the effects that are currently installed, supposable there will be more add to it later. From the people I have talked to that rode it said it was amazing and will make what has been done now look small in comparison. It is part of the conituned push of the later part of the 50th celebration.

The cars have also been replaced. The new cars are smaller height wise.

I have riden both. Disneyland's is so smooth now, kinda takes a bit away from the bump and grind of the old one. Also not sure I like the new sound track, it is great but every time I ride it I think of the old one. Grew up on Disneyland.

I will admit that I like WDW's use of no soundtrack and DL's use of one. However, no where is it written that WDW couldn't do something different. I like the idea of an update (i.e. same ride but new track, effects, etc.). I personally think it would really cool to have the traditional ride (i.e. dark ride with fiber optic-type stars replacing the cast ones) in the day, and then take a new ride at night (ala RockIt Moutain) adding the best of DL's effects. As has been discussed, DL has a large base around it that comes (Passholders), so people are more willing to ride it twice in a day, so I don't know how pressing the "double ride" is for WDW, but who knows! I also think it could be a cool concept for special events (like EMHs, MNSSHP, MVMCP), but then you get the argument of limiting access ot people who are paying something more.

Anyway, as long as they don't gut and redesign, I am all for trying some new concepts for the mission. AND HERE'S TO TRYING TO GET A TTA REHAB OUT OF IT TOO! :D

I'm fine with folks redoing the track for Space -- I just want the same layout -- bit of a traditionalist at times.

Update the effects -- go ahead. A launch up that hill -- even better! But don't change that dip on Omega!!!

but the BUMBY, DUSTY, STONE AGE TECHNOLOGY is why i love it.

I have to agree. It's the only coaster of that age and technology that I still love. I guess if it ain't broke (and please reserve the comments that it is), don't fix it.
