Space Mountain 101's, TTA Passengers get a very special treat...

I think the most incredible thing is that SM has been around for so long and people still love it. That just shows you how ahead of it's time it was. Not many rides are like that, especially thrill rides

I taught a physics program at WDW while working as a castmember for the YES program (Youth Education Series).

Everytime I taught the program I got to RIDE space mountain, once with the lights on, then with the lights off.

Seeing Space with the lights on is hardly a rare occurance.
It happens all the time.

I want to see RnRC with the lights on...

Then you would love to have been in my shoes... I've not only SEEN it with the lights on.. I RODE it with the lights on, back in the testing phase. It wasn't as fun... but interesting.

I've also ridden SM with the lights on once.

Absolutely no chance of being hit by the structure on Space Mountain. There is actually a couple of feet of extra clearance.

Shaq rode it with his arms up several times. Any of you as tall as Shaq?

I didn't think so.:D

dude you sure? I remember riding it awhile back and i could have sworn something hit the tip of my finger when i put my hands up

The one time I saw Space Mountain with the lights on, I was shocked about the height. It seems higher with the lights on. I'm about 6'2", and, in the tunnels, when I raise my hands up, I can touch the top. Never tried it while riding, though. I'd be too nervous.

And towards the end of the rehab (such as the last day) you might even catch them doing test runs of the ride vehicles.

I actually did see that! I went on the TTA again later (no battery left by then :( ) and got to see one car zipping around on the track. It looked pretty like it wasn't going too fast.

P. S. You can kinda see it on the video, but I noticed that the one star at the end of the TTA tunnel was still on.

P. P. S. Why do they turn off all the stars on the ceiling sometimes?

During my senior class senior trip we did that youth education program, where you get to ride it once with lights off and once with them on, and it did look like we were going to hit the bars to me! Now every time I ride it I feel even more like ducking :-P Though it did feel a whole lot slower riding it with the lights on. Those bars still scared me!

I've been on Space Mountain five times with the lights on. It's always cool to ride it with the lights on because that's not an everyday occurance. I think that there is enough clearance for you to put your hands up. If there were any danger of something happening to you, Disney would definitely state "Do NOT put your hands up on this ride" throughout the queue, and it doesn't say that. One day when I rode with the lights on with some friends, they started taking pictures while we were riding it. Space Mountain is my favorite ride in Disney World. I'd like to ride Rock N Roller Coaster with the lights on because I can never seem to tell which is up and which is down when I'm going through those loops.

I've been thru SM with the lights on ( cruising on the Peoplemover, natch! ), but never actually ridden it that way.

It's a really kewl thing to hear about, but I'm glad I haven't actually experienced the ride au natural - what makes it so great is the darkness!

If you think about it, isn't Space Mountain "naturally" dark? Because if you cut the power, it would be dark.

Hmmmm....

But if you cut the power there would be no ride.

Ponder on that for a moment! :)
