Southwest query...

I agree, but unfortunately it will get harder for Huntsville. Nashville is projected to gain another million people by the end of the decade...

True. And a lot of what hurts Huntsville is the majority of travelers flying in and out of here are business travelers due to the large government presence here with Redstone Arsenal and Cummings Research Park. A lot of it is last minute or business class travel, so the airlines don't have much incentive to lower prices. Every low cost carrier the Airport Authority has lured in over the years focuses on two routes: Washington DC and Orlando. Go figure.

Depending on the time of our flight if we get the Early Bird, a fight at 6:20 am I'm doing the early bird. Usually do the early bird on the way back becuase I don't want to have to stop in the middle of the day and check in 24 hours a head of time. Not worth the hassle to me.

Yeah, I bought EB for both ways because I knew that I would probably forget to check in right at 24 hours or I might not have access to the web at that point in time.

For those of you who have flown via Southwest I request some information if you will. First, does the 24 hour online check-in mean 24 hours from your flight time, or is it 24 hours before the flight date? Also, is it worth it to get Early Bird and how can you tell if the flight is a direct flight or a connecting flight? If it's a direct flight from Memphis to Orlando then I think we will be okay getting window seats together without Early Bird, but I figured I'd ask here first. Thanks!

I believe it's 24 hours prior to your flight, that's what I always believed, I would buy the early bird, Southwest has this crazy system of assigning you a boarding position based on when you checked in , and if you are in group "B" or "C" you might have trouble finding seats together, youwind up in the rear of the plane, big pain. I just booked airfare with Southwest yesterday to Orlando and the early bird was only $ 12.50 each, small price to pay to be one of the first 15 people to board, then you have your choice where you want to sit

Yes, it is 24 hours prior to your flight. Business class is the first group of 15 to board. Early bird is 16-whatever depending on how many people purchase it. Your boarding number will depend on when you bought your ticket and how many people have already purchased early bird before you did.
