I think we have issues but not sure... We are traveling with 6 of us 2 are children. 2 adults 2 children one set of parents then Grandmama and Granddad thats us. Do they board the families first after the business class men or women.??? If so cn my daughter her husband split each with one child and that would leave one seat for each of us on both sides of the plane. can they do that?? Put 2 and 2 then we come on and sit with each of them making the 3 seats across on Southwest?? We really do not want to put out another dime to travel to WDW in Jan for early bird boarding

My daughter, 7 year old granddaughter and myself (I'm the grandma) just flew Southwest from Orlando to Providence for Thanksgiving. I got B5 for my boarding position and my daughter had B 21 and granddaughter B 53. When I boarded, even though there was a full plane, I was able to find 3 empty seats together easily. I just saved the 2 seats aside of mine until my family came along, which was only a short time. So I would say you can make it happen as long as your kids are in either pre-board, A or lower numbers of B.

Family boarding with Southwest is after the entire A group boards, but you should not have any trouble being together then. How old are the children?

Thanks thats just crazy. GD is 2 and GS is 8 would they really give them that far apart boarding passes. they cannot stand in line without their parents and be abandoned like that.. I have only flown 1 time and the time I did it was packed, and people would just plop and not even ask if it was open. One man bought 2 seats he was large and someone got onto him and wanted to sit there. Ok if he is spilling over why would you even want to squish in there. I am not tiny at all but I dont need 2 seats... Rude passengers plus, they sure do not monitor luggage carry ons. 4 men brought on fill size suitcases and took up the space that 2 could have fit in. Thanks for your info.. Leaving Austin for WDW jan 20

It shouldn't - the kids and parents should be able to board during family boarding (after the A group), then they can just sve 2 seats.

If you happen to get A group boarding passes, it won't be an issue anyway.

An adult traveling with a child four years old or younger may board during Family Boarding, which occurs between the "A" and "B" boarding groups. However, those Customers holding an "A" boarding pass should still board with the "A" boarding group. With an all-jet fleet outfitted with comfortable, leather seats, our families traveling with small children are easily accommodated together.

Flew Southwest in December. They announced for families with kids 4 and younger to board after A and before B. I think you would be eligible with a 2 year old. Ask the staff at the gate just to be sure.

Just a little FYI, the last time I flew Southwest there was an issue with a family that had about the same set up as yours. The family was one child around 3 years old, his parents, and a set of grandparents. The gate agent let the parents and the child on during the family boarding time, however made the grandparents wait for their assigned number. I am not sure if that is Southwest's way of doing it for extended families or not, but that is the way it was done in this case. The grandparents were not very happy about it.

This is Southwest's policy on young children from their website:

An adult traveling with a child four years old or younger may board during Family Boarding, which occurs between the "A" and "B" boarding groups. However, those Customers holding an "A" boarding pass should still board with the "A" boarding group. So technically it's only supposed to be one adult per child, but I guess if the family is just two parents and one child, they let them all go. Older children may have to wait with the second parents, as do grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.

I am not worried about us..Just the parents. I am thinking they will have to split anyway. Mom and daughter and dad and son then us. I think they could surely save us a seat each being 3 across. Then Gramndmama tha'ts me could sit with the girls and Dadad can sit with the boys.. After all who in their right mind would sit themself's next to strange kids anyways so I am not worried about it..Its only a 2 hour non stop flight.
