Southwest Airline On Line Check In

We just returned from a 9 night stay at POR. We booked Southwest Airlines round trip. I was happy that I was able to use the Resort Check In but what I did not know is that you cannot check in 24 hours in advance on Southwest if you want to use the resort check in. There were 3 of us and fortunately, I had paid for the early check in for 2 of us thinking that they could save a seat. Unfortunately, when I went to the Conceirge at POR to have him check me in on line 24 hours before departure, I was told that if I do that, I would not be able to use the resort check in the next morning. I was skeptical of this information so I went to bell services and there was a manager there that confirmed what I had been told.
This presented a problem the next morning. When we took our luggage to the resort check in area, they were able to print the 2 boarding passes for the ones I had paid for early check in. They were not able to give me a boarding pass, the message that came up was that they reached the maximum for on line check in. I had to get a boarding pass at the airport. My flight was not leaving until 7:00 that night and I was trying to check in at 7:30 am. The flight was overbooked and I was one of the last ones to be given a boarding pass at the gate. They were looking for volunteers to give up seats. Anyway, if flying Southwest, you may want to pay for the early check in if you want to use the resort check in.

Thanks for this info. We were planning on using the Southwest resort airline check in service for the first time during our upcoming trip. I think I'd rather have the A Group boarding pass. I can roll my own bags over to the bus.

That's really odd. When I used the resort check in while Pop was doing the pilot for this program last year, I still checked in 24 hours before through my cell phone and they sent our boarding passes with the Magical Express packet that was left on our door that night.

If this is indeed the case now, I'll just bring my bags to the airport.

WOW:veryconfu That is really not worth it. Having a "A" is way more important than not having to check your bags. I am kinda of glad we are not flying SW this year. We are trying JETBLUE..they opened the August bookings up much earlier than SW did and they were cheaper and you get 1 bag for free. So we will how it goes. 3 months 2 weeks and 5 days!!!

So am I correct that since I have already paid for the Early bird check-in for our upcoming trip then I will not be able to check our bags at the resort?:veryconfu

It sounds to me like you will be able to check your bags. I'm pretty sure that what you paid for, ensures that you get into the A group, regardless of when you check in.

You will be able to use the resort check in with the early bird boarding. What happened to me was that I only paid for 2 early bird boarding passes and there were 3 of us. When we went to the check in area at POR, my husband and daughter got A boarding (they were printed right at the resort check in). I was not able to get a boarding pass because the flight was overbooked. What is interesting is that in a previous reply post, the person indicated that he received his boarding passes and bag tags on his door in the morning. That did not happen with me. Maybe we went over to resort check in too early (7:30 in the morning). In hind sight, I should have done early bird boarding for all of us (just trying to save $10).
Also, there was mention in this thread that when the pilot was being done, the person checked in on line using his cell phone. In my situation, I was going to the Conceirge. Maybe if I had just asked them to check me in and not print the boarding pass, I would have been able to do it 24 hours in advance.
Anyway, I would not worry about the early bird boarding and resort check in. You will be able to get the boarding passes printed at resort check in and also check your bags.

Not necessarily. It automatically checks you in 36 hours ahead of time, along with the business class ticket holders, so that you don't have to worry about checking yourself in.
If there's more people in business class and paying for the early bird check in than there are numbers in the A group, you may still end up in B. Or if a lot of people buy into this, you could still end up in C. But you don't need to check yourself in

That was me  We did this during the pilot when it was only at Pop Century so it's entirely possible it changed when it went to the other resorts.
But yes, I used my cell phone to check in on the mobile web site and was going to just print our boarding passes at the airport when we got there. But our Magical Express packet on the door included the letter with our pickup time and our boarding passes. When we brought our bags down the next morning, we didn't even have to stand in line. They just asked if we were using Southwest as we were walking up, gave us tickets from a handheld printer and took our bags  Seemed simple.
