Steve posted that MGM will have 4th of July Fireworks at 9 pm..... but didn't say if it was the normal Sorcery in the Sky display (Disney.com also doesn't say). Anyone know if it's going to be Sorcery or a different show?

Thanks,

Yes I was too wondering the same thing, and btw, what does everyone recomend for the firework show that i go and see with my family on the 4th??

If you are going to be there on the 3rd as well, go to Magic Kingdom on the 3rd. They do their Independence Day show on the 3rd and 4th. On the 4th, if you tag a spot near the entrance and watch the MGM show, you may have enough time to walk over to Epcot for their show (can't remember if its at 9:30 or 10:00). If you have to pick between the two though, stake out a spot in World Showcase just to the left of Mexico or in Showcase Plaza (between the two shops at the entrance to World Showcase...The American Pavilion is directly across the lagoon.) While you're waiting, you'll be able to see MGM's show just over Morroco and France. :)

And yes, MGM will be doing Sorcery in the Sky.

I believe it's still 9:30 as usual for EPCOT. I love EPCOT on the 4th. "I love to watch everything go all explody!!"

"Sorcery in the Sky" hasn`t played since the mid 90`s. The show that has used the name over the past decade was in name only. The original version was awesome (predating the park-launched pyro of "Believe" by a good 15 years)

I know the original version has Vincent Price and then was updated. I have seen both the Original and the update 90's version... but I knew it was also updated again for the last decade......... So the show I have seen the last few years at MGM on 4th of July which has the "Lights Camera Action" at the beginning and the same type of setup as Sorcery isn't Sorcery? I'm confused.........

Yes...that's the one. Think of it like Fantasy in the Sky at Magic Kingdom in that they've used the same name over the years for different shows. If you have been to MGM to see the 4th show in the past 4 or 5 years, it will be that same show.

Yep, SitS has a very messy history.
It began with the Vincent Price version in `89, then the James Earl Jones version in mid `90 - with the odd bit of pyro changing quite often. The original also had the Charriots of Fire section, if I recall. This version (with Mickey at the finale) ran I think until the late 90`s when Fantasmic! gave them a chance to scale back on the traffic control nightmare that the show was.

Lights Camera Action uses a lot of the launch positions (the 7 rooftop positions and the remote one) but apart from that it`s the same as calling RoE Laserphonic Fanatsy just because it launches fireworks from barges.

Thanks much for that tip. We'll be in MGM on the 4th and I do want to pop over to Epcot for ROE. I've seen video of 4th fireworks at Epcot and it was awesome. Gotta see it!

Edited: Can someone tell me how to walk over to Epcot from MGM? I've done the boat shuttle, but have never walked it. Thanks!

I remember I was totally underwhelmed by MGM's firework display on the 4th. I had gotten off and a bunch of fellow CMs hung out to see the fireworks. It was meh. I'd much prefer Epcot's or MK's. It seemed to be real short. It was still cool seeing fireworks behind the Hat/Chinese Theater though.

I don't mean to sidetrack this thread, but I know where the 7 rooftop locations are, but where was the remote firing location. I'm sure you have a map of it or at least a good description of its location Martin.

If I remember correctly, the original Sorcery in the Sky required that part of the park be closed off because of firework fallout.

Kinda crude, but there is a pathway that roughly follows this route. Complete with underpass under Buena Vista Rd.

As an educated guess, I narrowed it down to an area just north of Catastrphe Canyon - an square area on open land with chain link fences all around it.

Yep. The show was performed at park closing for good reason. Anywhere north of the Chinese Theatre was emptyed of people. Originally this was really only the tram tour, but then Mickey Av. was opened to guests, then NY Street was opeend to foot traffic, then the Annex expanded past Star Tours for MuppetVision and suddenly more and more of the park was being closed. And all these people were squeezed into Lakeside Circle and Hollywood Blvd. Remember this was before the Sunset Blvd pressure valve being able to soak up some of the bodies. I have to say, as posted earlier, it was well worth it to see such an awesome show, so close.

You have a whole hour to get to Epcot (the show starts at 10:00), so you might be able to attempt the ferry. However, it is insanely busy on the 4th, so you might be taking a chance. To walk to Epcot, head out of the park and to the left around the lake (towards the bus stops.) There is a sidewalk that goes around the lake past the back of the Boardwalk (the hotel) and towards Swan and Dolphin. Once you reach the Boardwalk, its a quick walk around to the International Gateway at the back of the park.

This walk is a little bit of a trek, and will take a little more than 20 minutes at a comfortable pace. However, you have to keep in mind that you also have to walk around World Showcase to find a good spot for the show, so my best advice is to be sure you have a spot close to the entrance so you can turn and exit right when the show at MGM ends. I've done it before with a few friends and we made it to Showcase Plaza with no problem.

Thanks much to unkadug and CrashNet! I'll plan to be near the park entrance and then walk over to MGM. I'd rather rely on my feet than wait in a massive throng of people for the ferry. :D
