I asked employees at my local game store about how Lorcana is doing, they said there's been a lot of interest in actually playing the game even with supplies being limited, which is a really good sign for the game's long-term health. They also said it's attracting people who are more interested in Disney characters but still want to actually play the game. The latter point is especially big, because if Disney fans are actually venturing out to play this, not just buying a pack of cards, it's capturing people who are not typically TCG players.
As to the original question as to why Lorcana would do better than an in-park battle card game -- I think the answer is obvious, the in-park game is too tied to actually visiting the parks.
