The Sorcerer's Apprentice trailer is now online. I am not one to criticize something before I see it but I would like to just ask one thing...Why is Nicholas Cage's character not named Yensid?

Because if we pretend that they're actually going back to the original source in Der Zauberlehrling there's no definite name for the sorcerer's character.

Also, having seen the trailer I must say that if that isn't Nicholas Cage's character that gets covered in insects I'm going to be very disappointed because it will rob me of a valuable opportunity to quote The Wicker Man.
"OH, NO! NOT THE BEES! NOT THE BEES! AAAAAHHHHH! OH, THEY'RE IN MY EYES! MY EYES! AAAAHHHHH! AAAAAGGHHH!"

The trailer also provided an obvious place to say, "You take the blue pill..."

Seriously though, this would-be Harry Potter looks like it combines the silliest parts of Wanted and Constantine and if it's half as inventive as Hellboy II I'll eat my hat.

Jerry Bruckheimer must be stopped, no matter what the cost.

I disagree, I think it looks really cool. The SFX will make it worth checking out either way.

But I would like to see a reprise of the "not the bees!" line. That would be an epic win on Nic Cage's part.

Because The Sorcerer's Apprentice is not just from Fantasia. It's a gothic poem from the late 1700's. In the poem, the sorcerer is nameless. They probably went with the new name to be more like the poem and less like the Fantasia short; even though they are very similar.

I know where it came from and all that and I could understand using a different name if the movie was being done by a different studio but with Disney producing this movie and the name Yensid being so ingrained in Disney trivia I kind of figured it would be a given. The name being used, Balthazar Blake, just sounds so incredibly corny. It reminds me of the character names form my D&D days where someone would use a name from literature and then couple it with some random word with the same first letter. ie Dolabella Destructor or Jupiter Justice.

I think it looks pretty good. Cool SFX, Nic doesn't seem as corny as he does in some of his movies. I like the apprentice, a very different role for him. Looks like it may turn out well for him. I hope it does well in the theaters. All I know is I want Nic back wrking on National Treasure 3!
