Okay.. so I have found a person that has a copy of Song of the South on video, Pal version for sale locally. I have no clue about these things. I have only heard that it can be converted or that newer VCRs will play it. Is this true and how likely is it that a new VCR would play it? Or how expensive would it be to convert if possible? Also can I transfer to DVD from the VHS? (for my own use only) for portable dvd player?
All help is greatly appreciated! :)

If you happen to live in the United States then I wouldn't buy it. The US uses what is known as NTSC and the Europeans use PAL. They are resolution based if I remember correctly and as far as I know, you cannot watch one in the others VCRs due to the resolution difference.

Basically, I don't believe that they are compatible. Maybe someone knows better than I, but when I was in college you couldn't watch PAL videos on an NTSC VCR (or vice-versa).

You're right - to use an updated technology analogy - its like trying to playing DVDs in a DVD player that hasn't been "chipped" for the other regions
