I wonder though if the Disney conservatism on this issue is even justified by people who found the film offensive in the respects we brought up here.
I am not an African American, nor were my family -- at least on my father's side -- slave owners. I would love to hear the opinion of someone who the film could actually affect emotionally in ways other than its intent.
Are there any African American readers of this site who have seen Song of the South and found it demeaning or otherwise distasteful?
Were there a great many who complained about the film back in the 70's to prompt Disney to "ban" it in the US or was it considered a pre-emptive move?
