is the best location at the poly for a standard view room and if so; what are some tips a traveler should know about this location?

Samoa, Niue and Rarotonga (buildings with standard view rooms) are all centrally located, close to the pools (though the main pool is currently closed for major refurbishment), transportation and the Great Ceremonial House. There is no real advantage of one of these buildings over another since the resort is small. None of the buildings have a balcony on the 2nd floor, so if a balcony or patio is important to you make sure you note your request on your reservation (remember it is a request, not a guarantee.)

Thank you. If you had your choice, would you stay at the Samoa or the Rarotonga?

This would be May 2016, so I would hope that the pool is done.

The main pool will be refurbished by then :). However, half the rooms in Samoa face the main pool area and tend to be noisy; the other side faces the quiet pool so outside sound is less of a factor. We enjoy the quiet pool side.

Rooms in Rarotonga face either the quiet pool (though further back than Samoa) or the monorail. We stayed in a monorail facing room when our kids were little and they loved watching the trains come and go.

You can't go wrong with either building. Rarotonga is a tad closer to the GCH, bus stop and the TTC (should you choose to walk there and catch the Epcot monorail. )

The construction schedule says mid April for completion of the pool but so far many of the projects are running late so I would guess the pool may still be closed the beginning of May. When the Nanea pool reopens the East pool will close for a complete redesign.

You are talking about April/May of this year (2015) correct? OP is considering May 2016.

Since I am booked for August 2015, I hope you mean this year!

thank you. I actually used your website to come up with the idea of the somoa longhouse. We are looking to try a resort on the monorail route for our next trip to cut back on some of the walking for the older folks in our party.

I really like Samoa. You can't get a bad view. Either side looks at a pool and the location is a minute walk to the lobby, pools, boat or bus. There are a few rooms in Samoa with king beds if you are looking for that.
