Something weird that I've noticed

This past weekend I was in the art store in Disney Springs, next to Rainforest, and my daughter and I struck up a conversation with Greg McCullough. Besides being a fantastic illustrator, he's a very warm and kind man. Aside from the standard Disney characters in typical settings, he also does "mash up" type things like Donald Duck as Darth Maul. He said that he has up until a certain date (don't remember exactly, end of July-August maybe?) to sell his entire stock of Star Wars-Disney prints, the order from Lucasfilm (Kathleen Kennedy perhaps) was that all those type of creations were to cease, to "preserve the integrity" of the Star Wars characters. Don't think this is just a rumor, I've seen less and less of this and I actually happen to agree. But, anyway, I thought I'd pass on this interesting piece of info as it relates to the topic at hand.

You mean we won't get to see Goofy as Darth Vader wearing Mickey Mouse underwear anymore? Awwww!!!

I wonder if this will also mean an end to collector pins that feature the same mash up characters? Maybe it already has, I didn't look for any this past visit, so they may already be off the shelves. It was about a 4 year gap between visits, so did they do this with any of the Marvel characters? Iron Goofy or Minnie Marvel?

Preserving the identity of these established, globally recognized characters should be priority. I never enjoyed Darth Vader being a punchline or to be honest, Star Wars becoming a fashion fad if you will. Great move on their part.
For this reason, I never cared for the Hyperspace Hoopla. Sure it was funny as a one-off thing, but to become an annual tradition like it was for a few years?

I've always thought somebody in marketing misunderstood the meaning of 'synergy', in an almost comical manner. The meaning of synergy is not 'Mickey and Kermit and Spiderman as Darth Vader', but 'marketing and distributing an IP through multiple channels that reinforce one another, so that seeing Star Wars featured on a Disney tv channel makes the consumer see a Star Wars movie in the cinema, which makes him want to visit Star Wars Land, where he buys a SW toy to relive the memories, the sight of which makes him want to buy the Blu-Ray, the possession of which is a permanent reminder to etc'.

Exactly, together but separate. Let the multiple characters stay in their "universes".

Wonder if this shift in marketing will have an effect on the Disney Infinity game? Darth
