Something my son said...

I know people don't really care when parents start talking about their children, so forgive me in advance. I'm thinking maybe parents of teenagers might appreciate this.

Since we have a trip planned for this summer, I've been reminicing by looking at the photos of past trips. On our first trip, my oldest son, almost 17, was about 10 years old. (Oh how I miss those days!) We've had some bumps in the road this past year with him. Some typical grunts & groans, some other issues, but overall he's a pretty good kid.

Anyway, I came across a photo of all of us from our first trip posing with Eeyore. I showed it to him expecting the typical groans or an "I guess." Well to my surprise, he said, "I love that place." Then we actually engaged in conversation! He even told me that he wouldn't mind getting married there and that he plans to take his children one day! He also said if he's talking to others about Disney World, and someone says it's for babies, he is quick to tell them it's awesome and it doesn't matter how old you are.

I guess I'm posting this because it made me so happy that he really does appreciate going and that he really does enjoy going on our family vacations. Fond memories, that's what it's all about, right? Thanks for listening.

P.S. - That's him in the red shirt and Lilo & Stitch cap. He'd die if he knew I put that online!

WOW!! This is our family except our almost 17 year old is a girl. We even went the same years!!! It's amazing how our "i know everything I need to know" teenagers turn back into a kid at Disney. We are planning a trip this year and I wasn't sure if she was really excited so I asked if she wanted to go somewhere else and I got a quick NO!!

Glad you shared and got some good "talk" time in with your son.

When I was 16 and my sister was 18 my mom won a contest that was an all expenses paid trip to anywhere WestJet flies. They generally just do North America/Caribbean so a worldwide destination was out of the question. She asked us to figure out where we wanted to go - Grand Canyon? Caribbean? Rocky Mountains?

My sister and I were very confused - "why aren't we just going to Disney?" I said. So we went - our 13th time there :)

My DS is a very young 15. Our last trip to WDW was in 2011. We generally alternate Disney/beach, but were planning another beach trip this year. All fall and winter he would leave the room if a Disney commercial came on TV because he would whine about wanting to go back and said the commercial made him sad. Then a couple of weeks ago my team mate asked us to go down and stay in his DVC with him over spring break. No more whining!

My children are dd 21 and ds 18 are both students at the university of Ga. My daughter has always been a huge fan of disney and helps plan our trip every year and is always ready to go back. My son however always seemed to just go through the motions until our past trip in Dec. He really seemed to enjoy himself more and participate with the family more. And after we got home and they went back to school we noticed he had changed his profile pic on facebook to a family picture of us in front of the castle and posted about the trip.I was surprised and happy at the same time to discover he actually does enjoy the family time .

Disney simply has no age limit. I would love to propose there, well once I find her! :p Anyway, I'd love to get married there, have a honeymoon there, take my future children there and eventually retire in Florida. That's my plan as of now. I think I'm in over my head with that though! :D

We love the beach too (even though our beaches are a yucky brown).

And we're both going this year. I see you'll be at PO-French Quarter. We'll be at Riverside!

I'm 17 and have always loved Disney, but it wasn't until I was 14 that I really started a full on love of Disney. It became more of a personal connection for me because it became a sort of refuge at a time when I felt very alone (high school can be cruel! Lol).

I plan on Disney always being apart of my life! It has such a big place in my heart!

I can only speak for myself because I don't have children, but I've love Disney since I was a little girl. I can remember as far back as 10 but I have photos of myself at WDW with my grandparents from even younger than that.

I also wonder if male teenagers experience Disney different then female teenagers? Just an interesting thought. I find it's more acceptable for females at least in my experience growing up. It's acceptable for girls to still like princesses in high school but it would be odd for a boy to like captain hook and have captain hook things in his locker etc.

My son now 15 stills loves Disney World as well, he is however pushing for a 2014 Disneyland/California trip to "compare" the two parks.

I won't tell if you won't. We're doing 2 days at Universal to check it out before our "real" vacation at Disney.
