This is terrible.
Animation (with a good story and with HEART) is the heart of the company and keeps its products up to date.
To lose this pool of talent, AND to lose the real tour and the inspiration that it gives to young artists, is a real shame... and for no good reason.
And, no, "business" in this constext is "no good reason"! Good management, story, and belief in the product were key; but they were lacking. The correct "business" would have been to fix those things and let the fun and artistry shine.... making good movies that made money and set up a slew of offshoot products.
Laying them off wholesale and destroying morale and a good bit of artistic talent and institutional memory was NOT good business sense. Period.
Long-term growth and investment ALWAYS wins over short-sighted decisions, even if there is short-term gain.
