Some brief thoughts on staying at the Contemporary

Did you take the boat ride to MK from WL? If you have. How long is it and how long did you have to wait for a boat? How was the wait for boat at night on the way from MK to WL? Did you try to take the smaller boat to the Contemporary and walk to MK?

I just checked my photos to see the times. We got on the launch at 10:46am. My son was swiping his Magic band at the turnstile at 10:53am. Give me a sec and I'll be back to answer the rest.

I'd humbly suggest you consider Animal Kingdom Lodge. A standard view room is often cheaper even than WL, and the resort is absolutely breathtaking. You'll have shorter transportation times to the parks, too.

The boat is generally no faster or slower than taking a bus from one of the other resorts.

Thanks for the feedback

Ok back. We only went to 2 parks during our WL stay. Animal Kingdom and MK. I can't help too much with the bus transportation to the parks, we had an Ohana breakfast first so we took an Uber to Poly then Uber to AK. We did take the bus back to WL, after park close, and that was fine.

As for MK, I quoted the times above, but we left the park at 3:30pm and took the boat back to WL. That was fine as well. I'm assuming that park closing would be ok. It has been for me at the other resorts. They usually bring the larger boats at that time.

I think AKL is a great suggestion. I have not personally been there, but have heard great reviews from friends who have. I actually had AKL booked for our pre cruise stay, once the trip changed I cancelled it. I actually wanted to stay there on the back end of our revised trip instead of WL, the amount of activities they have scheduled for the day look awesome. The view would probably be incredible as well. In the end I'm glad we did do the Wilderness Lodge, the proximity allowed us to add one last MK visit on checkout day.

I don't think you could go wrong with either one though!

Oh and to answer your question about how long we waited for the boat-

We arrived on the dock just as one was leaving. There was another still there that was going to The Contemporary. I almost jumped on it but am glad we didn't. It stops at Ft Wilderness first. I timed how long we waited for the next boat to MK- 5 minutes. Definitely quicker than taking a boat to FW, then the Contemporary, and then walking from there.

The problem with all of the monorail hotels is that the lobbies are overrun with people who aren't staying there. Not saying I don't visit the deluxes myself when I am not staying there, but it doesn't make for a serene lobby experience

We stayed at the Contemporary a few times, but that was almost 20 years ago. The quick service was still down where the Wave is now. It was our first resort we ever stayed at. I loved it. But, back then, there were so many fewer people, no ECV in sight and only little kids under 5 used strollers so the elevator was not an issue. I think that I would stay there again if I could afford it.
