Solo day trip to MK?

I'm going to WDW with my family in late March for Easter week. We're doing our usual RV drive down to Florida beaches and then 5 days camping at Ft. Wilderness.

It turns out I'm flying down to Orlando for work in mid-April. I'll be at a conference and staying in a big resort in Orlando near Universal. If I get an early flight out, I should be in Orlando by 8:30 or 9 am Monday morning with absolutely no plans except for checking in to my hotel. My work stuff doesn't start until Tuesday morning.

Would it be insane to catch a cab to the hotel and dump my bags and take a cab ride over to MK? In theory, I could be walking down Main Street by 10 or 11 am.... by myself. Would you do it?

Do people take cabs to MK? How does that work for drop offs? How does that work at night when you're leaving?

Never taken a cab but I know a lot of ppl are using uber now. You'd be dropped off at TTC than just catch a monorail or boat to mk. That or take a cab/uber to a resort and hop a bus to mk there. Might save a few bucks that way

Better plan might be to Uber or Cab to Bay Lake Tower and then take the walkway to the MK. Will prob save you time vs waiting for a monorail or ferryboat. Same on the way home, just req the Uber to the hotel vs trying to finds it with the masses at the TTC.

and yes....do it!

DEFINITELY DO IT! I love doing the parks alone, it's a whole other experience! You will not regret it at all! And when you check in at the hotel to drop off your bags, check and see if they have a convention rate ticket for WDW. It may save a few dollars and time at the ticket booth. :)

Definitely do it! Just plan on getting to MK around lunch time since it'll probably take some time to get to the hotel, checked in and then over to MK. You could even make some lunch and/or dinner reservations now if you wanted!

Totally do it! If you're Disney fan enough to be on these boards then you have the Addiction!!! I go solo quite a bit (the last 3 years actually, for a week), and it's awesome!! You can go at your own pace and it's fabulous.

Sure why not, what else would you do, sit in the room at stare at the TV. Last year I was in Orlando for a training class and made two trips in the evening after class for a quick trip. I was even able to hit AK on my way home, it was out of the way, but I needed to get something for my wife. It's a great way to spend the day, eat where YOU want to eat, go in shops you want to go in, ride any ride YOU want when you want. Think what you want to do, get your FP+'s and have fun!

I have been to the parks solo on a number of occasions, and as someone said in a an earlier post, it is a completely different, but wonderful experience. You can do what you want, when you want without having to compromise with anyone. You can stroll along enjoying the sights and sounds, or run to the next attraction if you want. Go for it! :)

DO IT!! I had always wanted to do a solo trip once in my life (bucket list LOL) and got that op last Summer when my family invited me along on their WDW trip, but then were lame and didn't want to really do anything or tour the Parks the way I am accustomed, so I ended up going off by myself and it was so much fun and a very different experience (in a good way).

So I really am going to do it. MK by myself, no kids. Wheeee!

I just booked the flight. I'll be in Orlando on a beautiful mid-April work day by 8:30 am. And I'm gonna go to MK.

I'm a compulsive planner, so you have to help me!!!!

So, I arrive at MCO at 8:30ish and I'm not checking any bags. I'll try to catch a cab at the airport to my hotel off Universal Blvd. Hoping to be at my hotel by 9:30. Freshen up and put on resort attire (new Snow White tee!, shorts and sneakers), schedule an Uber ride to the Contemporary and "Yo concierge, hold my bags til late tonight when I check in."

So, maybe I show up at the Contemporary before 11 am and walk to MK.

So, what would you do in my situation?

1. Buy a one-day, no hopping ticket in advance? Attach it to one of my Magic Bands?
2. Bring my Magic Band? I have 3 of the darn things and one just showed up for my family trip at the end of this month... At least it's fresh.
3. If I buy a ticket and bring the Magic Band, I can get Fast Passes for later in the afternoon???? I've never done FP without a resort reservation. What's the deal?
4. Do a QS lunch at MK and ALL THE RIDES???? Be ready to buy a sweatshirt that night.
5. Make a dinner ADR for one at some place in MK? I've never been to Liberty Tree Tavern, The Plaza or Tony's Town Square... Suggestions?
6. Leave the park whenever and catch the monorail to the Poly? Schedule another Uber ride from the Poly to my dismal Universal Blvd resort?

Okay, now poke holes and make suggestions....

How long is your trip? Just an overnight for MK then return home?

  1. Yeah, purchase that in advance. You need ticket media for advance FP+.
  2. Sure. Just make sure it's active in MDE.
  3. You still get 30 day advance FP+. Keep in mind the more popular (e.g. 7DMT) might not be avaialble.
  4. QS lunch. Up to you. Not sure you can get it all rides so plan ahead on the ones you want the most.
  5. Only two places for ADRs in MK: Be Our Guest and Skippers Canteen. But plenty of other choices in the Monorails resorts and Wildreness Lodge.
  6. See above. You can leave MK at any time for lunch/dinner then come back. But yeah, I guess you can get Uber from any of the Monorail resorts.

I'm actually going to be in the Orlando area for 5 days for training and a conference. I'll really only have the first day to fully commit to WDW, the conference starts bright and early the next morning. I'll have 3 nights for goofing off, so I might try to get over to Disney Springs one night as well. Maybe go to Universal CityWalk another night.

I hope to catch all of my favorite rides during the trip I'm doing with my family 10 days earlier. So for me, ALL THE RIDES is more about doing whatever I want and indulging my WDW obsession for one day. I just might alternate between PoTC and HM for 12 hours......

Okay, I'm really doing this solo thing next Monday.

I've bought the one day ticket for MK. I just have to go to will call on the day I arrive. Does anyone know if I can connect it to my Magic Band ahead of time? Or do I have to wait until I go to will call that morning?

I have a dinner ADR for Tony's Town Square for 2 at 8 pm (in case a co-worker joins me).

I have fastpasses for Space Mountain, Peter Pan and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!!!!

If your ticket and MB are already on your My Disney Experience account, you should be able to just use your magicband instead of picking up the ticket at will call. :) Have fun, solo trips are great!
