Soarin' update

if you have ridden the DCA version...... how many rows of seating are there width wise and back from the screen? i guess they kind of stack on top of each so to speak so everyone has the same view when the movie is playing. it will be interesting to see the inside in person.

Yeah, I posted in the announcement board that I thought this looked different from the DCA version. If I remember correctly, the DCA Soarin' is only 6 people wide per glider. This WDW version looks to be much wider.

Am I remembering wrong, or am I seeing this picture wrong? I can't imagine they changed the seating configuration.

There are 3 vehicles from left to right, each with 3 rows, and the outside two cars must have rows of 10 seats whereas the inside car must have rows of 9. We can see in one of the pictures that there are 9 seats, so that is the only way I can logically come up with that 87 person capacity listed. DCA had the same number of seats seats

Thanks for the pic. I SOOOO don't remember there being that many seats there. Guess I was too busy enjoying the attraction to give it the once over.

thanks. i have always wondered how this attraction works.

i guess the first time i ride the wdw version ill look at the video............. the second time ill be looking around seeing how everthing works. that is of course if i can see anything. i know that everything will be painted black, but the film will be bright so maybe ill get lucky.

Most everything is painted dark grey or black, but it's plenty visible when you walk in to take a seat in your glider. Think Mission:Space after you exit your pod. Enough light to see plenty, but not enough time to investigate as much as all of us "how's it work" nuts would like to have.

It's an amazingly overwhelming system, and from what I can remember, there's so much to take in you simply don't have time to look at it all before they make you take your seat.

Thank you, Steve!

GOOD NEWS: "Five Biomes" in the Queue (woohoo!)
POTENTIALLY WORSE NEWS: "Airport" theming. Ehh.
The ONLY thing that bothers me about the airport theming is it's contrast with the rest of the Land pavillion. Airport theming is cool, but how exactly is that going to mix with the "natural" and "earthy" feel of the pavillion as a whole.

Here's hoping they don't destroy that original overall theme.

My memory of DCA this summer was also that there were only six seats or so. Thanks, ISTCNavigator57 for the memory jog. After lift off I did look around. If you look strait ahead the screen, which is a section of a sphere, fills your view. Looking around you can see the edges of a screen and the other ride units above or below you. So far it looks the same.
I was more cognizant of ride differences between the Cali parks and WDW this time, and was surprised how different POTC, SplashM, and ToT, are. I had assumed going out that ToT would be the same, as in WDW, but, as I recall, in Cali you can load on two different levels, and the actual ride vehicle doesn't travel horizontally.
It will be interesting to see if Soarin' is cloned.

Thanks for clearing that up! (I didn't have any idea anyway). All these photos are really getting me excited about Soarin' though!

Bingo. That's what my concern with the Land has been.

Zac, I had a similar worry too. (still have it).

The Land is such a peaceful and serene area of Epcot...and an airport is the exact opposite...the hustle and bustle at an airport is not exactly serene and peaceful. I guess we'll have to witness it and hope for the best.

I like that Biom idea or murals or whatever they are. It will add to the idea of the original Land Concept.

And from what it sounds, only the Soarin Line will feature Airport theming. It seems that the imagineers wanted logic to play a role in the design. How do you get in the air? Airport.

I really do like Soarin's position. I wonder if it ever gets too popular, that the building can be turned into a Pavilian.
