Soarin inventor interview

Just an FYI: one man did not "invent" Soarin. He designed the ride mechanism, but it took dozens upon dozens of Imagineers to design and build the entire attraction. Stating that Soarin was "invented" by one man is really cheating the other talented people involved.

Very true... Omnimax screens have been around since the 80`s...

And we all know which ride had 2 of them as a small part of the show!

wasn't this guy interviewed in Disney Magazine and for a travel Channel episode, I think that was when the first soarin' came out like 5 years ago.

i would give this person the benefit of the doubt and say that he knows it took many to design, theme, create, etc etc the attraction. i think he meant the ride system design in the early stages.

not sure if he knew about how long that type of screen system has been around though.

none the less, interesting read. thanks for posting.

I saw someone mention a Joe Rhode interview about everest, I found one with the guy who made Soarin. It's really cool. The guy used an erector set to come up with the idea.
I don't see the word "invent" here. In any event, "guy who made" is a little vague. Just the same, welcome to the boards Lavander. Thanks for the link... :D

"After the show, guests had the run of the studios. One of the major dinner hits was the Great Movie Ride. The ride was shut down with the lights up, and guests could wander around the movie sets and have a meal with anamatronic starts like Clint Eastwood"

HOW COOL IS THAT!?!?!?

It's his name on the patent...
Obviously, as I said before he designed the ride mechanism. He did NOT invent the story, queue, videos, etc. that were developed by dozens of other Imagineers, who have been shortchanged in this thread.

This isn't a typical OmniMax (or Imax Dome today) and its modified. It also uses an Imax HD projection system which uses a higher framerate. Imax Domes have been around since the late 70s. Disney does do quite a bit to the projectors though. Loop cabinets to name a few.

For those Horizons fans, this is much alike what they did in that attraction.
