Does anyone else think that soaring will run only the new theater when its finished and then just use that one theater while they refurbish the other two?

Honestly I think they will because the new theater will have the updated screens and projection systems, the other two won't, they will have to change the other two. Thats just my theory.
Unless they want four hour lines because they only have one theater, the entire thing would most likely have to go down for a bit.

I doubt it also, because that's just the way TDO runs anymore and well, it would create even more hellish lines than exist for that ride now. And with the construction you can see going on as of 2 wks ago from certain places in EPCOT (cranes etc behind the Canada and other pavilions) I really doubt it.

Sorry for this next reply but, what if the just closed one theater, and then the next after, just a theory.
Then they would have one theater that has the old projection system and one with the newer running together. They probably have other things to do with it as well; makes more sense to take it down for a bit.

Yeah I guess, I just think that them shutting down soarin that for some people is the only reason they visit the park, would be a bad decision for their business, but thats just me.

It's no different for those of us that love Test Track. It sucked to visit in Aug 2012 and not get to ride it because they were redoing the ride turning it into the 2.0 version. It's also no different than when other rides go down for major refurbs. The only thing my mom truly loves in MK is POTC and it was down on our last trip. She was bummed to say the least. I would probably reschedule a trip if HM was ever down again on a visit (like it was for me in 2007). You gotta pick your battles lol.

For me, Soarin would not affect me visiting EPCOT whatsoever because I rode it once and hated it, and there are so many other reasons I go to EPCOT(which is my favorite park).

What's worse is keeping an attraction in disrepair open simply to appease guests.

Also worth noting that they took the entire ride down at DL to upgrade the systems rather than one at a time.

Epcot is also my favorite, and I also see your point, I am also a fan of Test Track, but when it come to FP+ selections I pick soaring and just ride test track single rider for like 5 mins in the middle of the day. But I can see all of you points.

Oh, it would certainly affect you. All those people that are currently standing in line at Soarin will now be standing in line at the attractions that you like.

They can update the equipment without updating the film for right now. The new one might be a sharper image, but, it will be the same movie until all the theaters have upgraded. Then they will upgrade the film. So two will always be open unless they do decide to just shut it down. It could happen, but, I would be very surprised.

Not really. I FP+ TT and then go to the WS.

It'll cause some people to reschedule or skip the park all together. I rescheduled my trip in 2007 when HM was closed. Many simply do Soarin' and Test Track, and then leave the park. It's a shame but not many people like EPCOT simply because it doesn't have a lot of rides. I enjoy EPCOT for World Showcase but you'd be surprised how many people hate it.

I'm quite aware regarding EPCOT. Also, not to be rude, but re-read my post as I stated that I would reschedule a trip to WDW if they were taking HM down for an extensive refurb while I was supposed to be there. You just basically restated what I did.

Did you ever think they might close the first theaters down when they get closer to the other theaters being finished to put in the new projectors...So that way all of them have the new projectors all at once..

Not wishing to burst you bubble, but, couldn't that be the possible alternative for all the Soarin lovers as well? It comes under "frying pan into fire".

If I have my FP+ before I even arrive for my stay at WDW, who cares? Also, I don't go at an extremely busy time anyway, so the WS wouldn't be too crowded.
