Soarin' Building

Hello everyone, I just discovered this site about a week ago and I just registered this morning, so I apologize in advance if I post anything dumb or already over-discussed. But I seem to remember a long time ago that "The Great Movie Ride" was going to be in the spot between The Land and Imagination, back before they decided to build the Studios, so I'm sure there's plenty of room for Soarin'.

My question is, how will they make it's theme fit in with The Land, or even Epcot in general. I've never been to DCA, so I don't know much about the original, but could this one perhaps have a more environmental or agricultural theme (like soarin' over nature preserves or farms or something)? Or, if it is to be its own attraction, could be touted as being more genericaqlly about flight, much as the old WOM was ostensibly about transportation, when it was really more specifically about the automobile?

Thanks for letting me jump into the fray.

Future World Pavilion

I heard that there is going to be a connection between the Land and the Living Seas through a Weather Pavilion. This COULD be very cool and bring a major attraction to the west side of Future World. Maybe something to do with natural disasters and experiencing a few through a simulation-type ride?? This would be really cool and ideas could begin anywhere =)

Yeah, the weather pavillion with a clone of Storm Rider from TDS is still floating around.
Won't be happening anytime soon, though.
At least not until 2007 or so.

I think they have enough room for two pavilions, one on either side of the land pavilion.

I think Soarin will stand alone, the building will be themed like some kind of Airport ... the green houses could somehow work with the whole airport theme.....

Then again this is all pure speculation.....

It really needs to be a stand-alone pavillion...the "Air" pavillion....so as it has been said before it the section would have Land, Sea, and Air pavillions. That sounds the best. Since there is room for two Soarin' buildings, go ahead and build Soarin' and then build the Weather pavillion next with Storm Rider from TDS. I hate the idea of having it part of The Land, that doesn't seem right.

A sky pavillion? what is this?

I'm not sure if y'all know this but the Soarin' attraction at DCA is 10 stories high. The benifit that the imagineers had in Cali was that they were actually able to dig into the ground 4 floors or about fourty feet so that you only see 60 feet of the building above ground, that way it didn't tower over the Disneyland resort and so that it was not visable from inside Disneyland itself. Now the problem with Florida is that they can't dig down that deep because the water table in Florida is very close to ground level (thats why the utilidors at the MK were built at ground level and the park itself is actually on the second floor, 20 feet above ground). So, a lot more of our Soarin' attraction will need to be above ground. Of course we do have that grassy hill between The Land and Imag but that is only about twenty feet tall, so it is very possible that a lot of this building will be seen over that berm. How the Imagineers will hide this, I have no idea, but I am very interested to see what great idea they come up with to make it blend in with the rest of the area.

Anyways, I just thought y'all might like to know how huge this building really is.

Thanks for sharing that! When I went, I actually do remember gradually walking on a downward slope :)
