Soarin: A Gift from Disneyland? I don't see it

I'd be shocked if Diney promotes the ride as this and goes and changes it 1 year later to a WDW theme. With all the budget cuts that everyone is screaming over, it would cost more money to change it, then to just install what you want from the get-go.

I don't see how the DCA version of the film would even make sense in Epcot. CA has nothing to do with Epcot or the Land Pavillion. My guess, if I had to make one, would be either of 2 things:

1 - footage from historial or scenic places fom each country in World Showcase (Great Wall of China, Statue of Liberty, Leaning Tower of Pisa, etc.) But even that is out of place for THE LAND

OR

2- no clips at all, one cohesive film that tells a story to tie it into the The Land theme

Then again I believe that whatever Al Lutz says HAS to be WRONG :-) (can you say "DL Splash Mountain rehab" Al?)

Yeah I really don't see how they can take the exact movie from DCA of California and put it into the land. I much better movie would be a soarin over many of the major land formations that are all around the country (Grand Canyon, Mt. Rusmore, Rock Mountains ect...)

Heading for the great escape.
Perhaps they mean that there going to use part of Disneylands budget to pay for it.

Who says its soaring anyhow, could be this infamous tree top coaster.

i was assuming they'd be making it a Soarin Over Florida (although, it doesn't have the same ring as Soarin Over CA) but i'm not sure what all they could do with Florida....I agree with you all...i think they should make it a Soarin Over America or Soarin Over the USA or something...make it highlights of some of the US's most well known national treasures. i think that could be quite appealing! or, they may can make a tie-in with World Showcase and have highlights of some of the world's most famous tourist spots. i really think it could be quite effective either way.

I have a feeling that they won't change the movie for EPCOT. All this new stuff just sounds too good to be true, considering the last few years, most of the resort has remained completely unchanged. I mean, i can see them taking the opportunity to call it "a gift from disneyland" just so that they can save that much more money. Plus, I highly doubt they would make a new film a year or 2 later, current management would wait until attendance has dropped again and they absoultely must do something new. I guess we'll have to wait till 2005 till we find out.

The beauty of this ride is it's ability to be changed easily, like a conventional simulator. A new film is easy to make, and programing the ride system is not very difficult.

IF, and I do mean if since I haven't been able to find out for sure, the attraction opens with the California film, it is no big deal. The film is great, and if you didn't know better, you would assume that you are soaring over several states.

The film ends with a wonderful fly-over of a holliday decorated Disneyland. It would make sense to use it to celebrate Disneyland's 50th.

Also, let's wait and see where you enter this attraction. I hear both that it will be from the Land, and that it will have it's own entrance, which would negate the need to tie it in with the Land theme.

I agree totally. I really don't see the film as being a problem, whether they use the current DCA version, or create a new one. Its another great attraction heading to Epcot, and I will be more than happy to soar over anywhere in it! :D

Is the movie in California an IMAX film........

For that matter ...are there any IMAX/Disney attractions in either park?

ok to keep with the theme of "the land" they would most likely fly over various teerrain either over the US or over the world. That would make most sense since the park is an international discovery themed park.

I think it would be great to have it, even if they use the California film, which is great, but i'm just worried they won't change it. Sure it's easy to change the film, but look at Star Tours and Body Wars- those are too.

I'm looking forward to seeing the original Sorin' film at DisneyWorld because A) I've heard its good and B) I have no desire to visit Disneyland even though it is closer to me than WDW.

And as for changing films, the Imagination pavilion originally had Magic Journeys (All I remember is a flower turning into a lion), then Captain Jackson and finaly Shrunk'n'Honey.

And since I'm jumping off topic anyway, can anyone confirm that the 360 film O Canada is actually original to Epcot? I could have sworn that film was made for Disneyland's Circlevision theater and has a 1979 copyright.

I thought I had seen the canadian film at the world's fair in New Orleans back in the 80's -- it may have been a different film, hard to remember.

Okay I hope they are not taking away from DL's budget to send Soarin' to Epcot, I know this may be an unpopular opinion but I would MUCH rather they add to Disneyland/DCA before doing this. It IS DL's 50th afterall!

Also is there any OFFICIAL confirmation that it is an "addon" to the Land? While there isn't that much room there is it *possible* it could be a new pavillion all together.. if so I'd personally LOVE to see Stormrider!

Oh and what is this treetop coaster???

Just Like Star Tours and Body wars?

If they do go ahead with this as is, it will be a gift to Epcot from Disneyland for the Disneyland 50th Annv. Yet Disneyland is not scheduled to get anything much for its' 50th. A new Parade and Fireworks and new track (in the same configuration) for Space Mountain. But I guess the ToT at DCA still counts even though Tomorrowland is disintegrating.
"Soarin' over California" is a very pleasent attraction and though the footage was taken in California a bit of it is somewhat generic looking and one section ( over the L.A. freeways) was sped up and looks very shaky and unprofesional. I call it a good D ticket attraction.

I see two options with placing Soarin' by/ in The Land...

1) If you all can think back to the mid 80's or so, There were plans to install a movies pavilion between The Land and Imagination. This could be the possible location of the new Soarin'.

2) If Soarin' goes in The Land, I see the film being something like flying over different types of terrain... Flying over the ocean, over a desert, over a rainforest, over a city, etc... I really can't see them taking the EXACT same film that was produced to be acout California and putting it in FLA... Plus you must consider that Disney never really clones a ride entirely...

Just my two cents...

I think Soarin' will be even more popular at WDW than it is at DCA--while Californians love it, there is still a more hushed feeling of "I can see this stuff anyway". If they are showing Disneyland's home state to Floridian guests, people will be spellbound by the beauty of the state, since probably most of them will have never been to California. It will give everyone a good idea of why Walt chose California to be the home to his first park. Of course, if you go to Disneyland in March like I did, and you have snow-capped mountains as the backdrop...you quickly understand. The music, alone, makes this attraction incredible...but wdw guests are used to this type of serious attraction (Disneylanders weren't, which is why DCA kinda caught them off guard, much like Epcot did), that will fit in Epcot perfectly. Furthermore, while thrilling, this ride is not intense, so it's truly a family thrill ride. I think it'll be a crowd favorite.
