So why are the future world lakes empty?

They empty them from time to time for a number of reasons. It could be anything from cleaning, to repair work or regular work on the pumps or filters.

West lake (Seas, Imagination, Land) was empty because they were re-doing the wall on the bridge into the Land, pouring new concrete wall stuff. Now, even though that's finished, they're also working on the Imagination fountain (It was looking pretty terrible).

Yeah its just stagnant water, so they have to drain it and clean it out from time to time and repaint the side walls. They do put big white tablets into the water though to keep it clear. Next time you see it filled look in the bottom and you'll see a bunch of white tablets that look like giant asprin.

I noticed them empty last Saturday when we were there... (facing The Land) the one on the right had what appeared to be path rows through the rocks and most of the coins appeared to have been removed. The rocks that were left were very coppered-green. The "lake" on the left, it looked as if they hadn't started yet... there appeared more coins than rocks and everything was dark coppered-green. Gross.

I heard a rumor that they were going to place containers on the walkways around the lakes with signs that say "For your convenience, please place your wishing coins in these containers". So they dont have to clean the money out anymore. Seems a bit unmagical to me, but would be more efficient.

Its a good idea, but I have a feeling people will still throw them into the ponds.

Beginning of the 25th anniversary of EPCOT.

Brilliant! I haven't heard anything official about it other than rumors whether or not they'll be doing anything at all... I hope they do. EPCOT is my favorite park and deserves a celebration! I'll be there with bells on!

Empty for new promo...

Don't you get it? they are going to sell "Put your Name on a Rock" rocks...for only $379.95, you can put up to 4 names on one of the rocks from the Epcot lakes...then, whenever you visit EPCOT, you can go to the lakes and don the scuba gear to find your personalized rock!:lol:

When we were there in December the rocks in the lake by The Land and Living Seas were a mess. It was drained and the rocks were just sitting anywhere. This last trip in June the lake was drained as well but the rocks were neatly placed within.
