I think it all depends on context. (and also whos saying it)

Kinda like there is a road in our town that is spelled PANTHER TOP Rd. but the locals pronounce it PAINTER TOP Rd. :brick:

Wow Tyler! I have never heard a three syllable pronunciation of that word before. Is "kuh RIB ean", the way very sleepy bus drivers say the word? That word has always had four syllables in my language.

LOL, only you would knock me on that. I wasn't going for syllables, just trying to separate the sounds. :) I wonder if I can fix it?

Same as Barnum and ogryn. But then again, I drop "Rs" in the middle of words, and add them to the end of others. (I pronounce my name Ma sher or Masha, depending upon how tired, or drunk, I am. ) So perhaps my pronunciation of Carribean is wrong.

My pronunciation depends on the context, and there's really no rhyme or reason to it. More often than not, I use the Kah-rib-ee-ann pronunciation.

Everytime I've been in the US, I've heard it's natives say Kah-Ribb-Eon, whereas I think everyone over here uses Kah-Rib-eee-ann. We put the emphasis on the E, and in the US it is put on the R.

I say "Kah-rib-ee-ann Beach!!"

This past summer, I asked an Islander who came in to my fish market how to pronounce it. She said, down in the Islands, it is pronounced "Kah-rib-ee-ann" and that "CARE-i-beee-an" was made up by Americans, and the pronunciation is how you can separate an Island local to someone who vacations there or has recently moved there. Not sure on how true that is b/c I've never been down the the Caribbean, but I like the reasoning b/c it backs up my pronunciation.

I did a poll one vacation on the WDW Bus Transportation, and the majority of bus drivers pronounce it Kah-rib-ee-ann Beach, from the small sample I came in contact with for 10 days.

DRIFT: Get this Tyler, on our most recent vacation 4 days ago, we had several bus drivers enter CBR from the Jamaica entrance but loop over to Trinidad South first, then back track back to Jamaica, Aruba, etc. That was a new formation.

That's the C route. It was most commonly used for the Studios, back when they did the internal. I guess it's become old habits for some drivers. :) It's good to kick up the mix every so often.
