So where does the wire get attached to from the Matterhorn?

By the way, Magical was a wonderful show at Disneyland. Dumbo steals the show in my opinion although Tinkerbell does a fine job too. The wire is a little different from WDW. Tink flies from the top of the castle to what I can only assume is practically off the property. At Disneyland she starts at the Matterhorn and eventually gets off on the other side of the castle. I had trees blocking where she ends up and I couldn't figure out where Dumbo started either. I know the wire is attached at the Matterhorn and it seems to go behind the castle and what I am guessing is either attached to Thunder Mountain someway or maybe even the old Skyway next to Casey Jr. Am I right?

its over to a fake tree which hides the platform.. its off to the side of the castle.

In the MK, tink flies to the roof in tomorrowland

Dumbo starts from the Frontierland side of the park. Guests cannot see him waiting to come out, as he is backstage. The same goes for Zero during Screams. Definitely not the old skyway station in Fantasyland, or Thunder.

As already stated, there is a platform that is hidden by a fake tree, where Tinkerbell goes.

Thanks for asking this! I was wondering the same thing when I saw the show last week. Now the second part of my question; was Dumbo someone in a costume or was it an animatronic?

The MK needs to get rid of the zip line and get a setup like this one somehow. It was very cool to see the characters go up and down, and switch directions from left to right.

You can see the fake tree here,

On Google Maps you can see the tree, it's right behind Pinocchio and Village Haus.

I might have this wrong but Tink is Dumbo. Dumbo is a puppet, and once Tink is done with her first appearance she puts on Dumbo, and then lands and returns again as Tink. It's the same performer as it's easier(timing and safety-wise) to keep the same person in the harness than to undo and redo it.
