So what exactly is wrong with WDW?

Well, in any case, back to the OP's original point. My problem, and I know many other people on this board will back me up, is that Disney has become too focused on the wrong things. Nowadays, Disney is more concerned with numbers than it is with the authenticity of the experience it's trying to create. An obvious example is with shopping. I think you'd be hard pressed to find one store that sells entirely unique merchandise at Disney World. Every store sells the same thing. Whereas once before a person could only get Star Wars merchandise at the store outside of Star Tours, now you can find Star Wars merchandise anywhere and everywhere. I even found Star Wars merchandise at the Mercantile gift shop at the Wilderness Lodge. What does sci-fi have to do with the American frontier? (And yes, I realize I could include a Star Trek pun in there somewhere, but that is besides the point.) In general, there has just been a sense of declining quality at Disney World, and it's giving life-long fans, like myself, pause for the future of the Walt Disney World Resort.

I think that's an very extreme accusation. I highly doubt the OP intentionally wanted to fan the flames, as it were. I think Crazy Harry's original intentions were to create a concise, organized list of grievances that the members of this website have against the Disney Company. Do I think that the topic in general is overdone at this point? Of course. But do I think that threatening to shut down the discussion is fair? Definitely not. Just let the conversation live or die on its own. No need to condemn it prematurely.

This^

And a wise man once said "The truth depends greatly on our own point of view.

Maybe the title could have been worded differently, but even if it was people can still read it how they choose. The title does not infer that anything is even wrong, and invites those who have specific complaints to site them and discuss them given that there are so many complaints that are stated in such general terms, or invites those who don't think anything is wrong to explain why and illustrate what is done right.

So what doesn't fan the flames? You can report a factual break down of an attraction and you can get a "this happens so often" or a "now all the doom and gloomers will chime in". If you don't want to fan the flames, then don't have any discussion.

But this is the last I will address this because it does not fulfill the intended purpose of the thread.

I think the reason you hear "generalizations" is because it isnt just the maintenience issues per say, but the what some have described as "declineing by degrees". I subscribe to this theory. If you want specfics they are there, as the other posters have said these issues have been discussed frequently ie Yeti, Big Thunder etc. But the jist of your thread "whats wrong with WDW" that is left for interputation. As our honored previous posters have mentioned this too has been discussed at nauseum. Frankly I think if you want to start a new thread on this notion you have every right. They may be tired of it but they dont need to speak for everyone.

There are some who say we are all doom and gloomers and WDW is a great place to visit. I agree with this thought also. It is a great place to vacation. The evidence of the Declineing by degrees is valid weather its a great place or not. What some of us is worried about is where does it end? Or does it?

I've never understood how people go out of their way to NOT contribute to a thread and actually do nothing constructive in their post other than complain about someone wanting to rehash an old topic. Hey folks, it's a "message board" about Disney World. I could talk all day about Disney and in every thread even one's with the same topics I see a new point of view. So every thread has some merit.

Anyway............this is my stance on Disney World. If there is one man who should always be copied it's Walt. Maybe he went overboard because he always looked for things every time he went on a ride. But no one can say he wasn't driven to perfection. I still think you should sit back and enjoy your success but you should always be finding ways to improve the product and not take away from your core audience.

For example, what makes Disney what it is? I think it is uniqueness. How many songs can we sing that are directly associated with the parks? You can't do that at Cedar Point or Magic Mountain as much as I enjoy those parks. You don't get the feeling of history or nostalgia anywhere else.

Now........the issues with Disney? They have the tendency to rest on their laurels. Yes WDW is the best vacation destination in the world and I like the FL expansion. The only thing is something should replace Snow White right away and not a meet and greet. Something to do with the Lion King for example. Also, the Avatar thing isn't necessary. They could take a wildly popular franchise like Pirates of the Carribean and make a land out of it. They still keep the original ride of course, but the "land" would be similar to how Potter is. I mean, Jack Sparrow is going to be popular for a long time, lets face it, so do something about it and put it in DHS. Animal Kingdom needs something of a ride with the Lion King, and I mean a big one. Why not exploit one of the most popluar movies ever?

Disney can still make a great dark ride but they too often don't. Now, let's see how the expansion goes but there still needs to be help in DHS and AK. And River Country? Come on, either do something with that or get rid of it entirely. Walt wouldn't let that happen. And let's face it, the locals in Disneyland put enough pressure on the company so that things are kept up to snuff. WDW doesn't need a 5th gate right now but it needs upgrades in their parks to make each of the 4 the best it can be. The water parks are fine but if they made a third water park that wouldn't hurt either.

As someone who loves the place so much that is my two cents. It isn't meant to sound ungrateful but rather wary that every other park in the world wants to do anything it can to unseat it. Universal is trying. But they should never forget that in 1955 Walt created a park that everyone and their mother has tried to emulate to no avail. Disney should never forget that and the fact that they are always being chased.
