So I just watched Captain EO.. and it was great.

But at 17 minutes, is this the longest 3D theme park film? Not including pre-shows or anything.. does anyone remember if this had a pre-show or what it was?

I'm not sure about the Epcot version, but at Disneyland, the "pre-show" for Capt EO was a "making of Capt Eo" video that they showed on monitors while you waited for the theater doors to open.

Yep. I remember that as well

The whole show is pretty funny :lookaroun

And it took me years to realize that the Queen was Angelica Huston :lookaroun :brick:

Holy crap. I don't remember Captain EO being that bad. That was definitely one of the dumbest things I've seen recently. Thanks for the link though.

I think it loses a lot being seen on a low quality download. In the theatre with additional effects it was good fun. Definitely a product of it's time though.

You know, I was thinking about that and I was surprised it could be a 3D film. Aside from the flying critter there didn't seem like many cool 3D effects were used. It didn't have any 4D elements, like all the new 3D shows have, did it?

It had some 4D elements - lighting in the theatre to match what was going on in the screen, things likes strobes under the seats, colours and search lights. When the spaceships fired lasers, real lasers came out from the screen and make explosions up the side of the theatre. When the spaceship crash landed at the start smoke billowed out from the screen and enveloped the front several rows....stuff like that.

One other really cool 3D effect was the spinning asteroid at the very beginning. I remember that one would always get a lot of "oohs" and "aahs" from the audience, and you'd see a bunch of people in the theater reaching out trying to touch it. Then when it exploded, a lot of people would jump.

There are high quality Pan and scan and widescreen versions at (yeah - you guessed it) Disney Central. All source.

Yeah but remember when this was in the parks...Michael Jackson was at the height of popularity...I remember really liking this film (partially because it was the first 3D movie I had ever seen and I was/am a hugh MJ fan- no jokes!)

"Takin Picutres is Makin Memories..." I remember that!
Here's the whole thing :D

Long before the old Model "T"
'Round about the turn of the century
Folks discovered a barrel of fun
Takin' pictures by the light of the sun

Smile! Hug! Look at the camera
Hold your breath and say, "Cheese." Cheese!
Little did they realize back then
They were makin' memories
Good old memories.

Makin' memories
Makin' memories
Takin' pictures is makin' memories
Catchin' little pieces of time
Makin' 'em yours and makin' 'em mine

Birthday faces and happy places
We love to hold near and dear
And when we're makin' memories
Happy days can reappear
Appear

(Brief musical interlude)

Wu! Then the flappers appeared on the scene
Rum-ble seats and twenty cent gasoline
Radios and Dixieland jazz
Brownie cameras and razz-a-ma-tazz

Snap shots of the whole family
Give that button a squeeze
Little did they realize back then
They were makin' memories

Makin' memories
Makin' memories
Takin' pictures is makin' memories
Catchin' little pieces of time
Makin' 'em yours and makin' 'em mine

Big occasions and celebrations
We can forget in a year
But when we're makin' memories
Happy days can reappear
Appear

All around us
Everywhere we look
Every moment that we live
Can fill a picture book
Picture book

Light and shadows
Smiles and sentimental tears
They're the special moments
We can cherish through the years

Now we shoot whatever we see
Night or day in color photography
Candid shots of baby at play
Photo finishes
And tigers at bay
Hey don't look into the camera
Let's be natural please
And with ev'ry single shot we take
We're makin' memories

Makin' memories
Makin' memories
Takin' pictures is makin' memories
Catchin' little pieces of time
Makin' 'em yours and makin' 'em mine

Great vacations and graduations
We love to hold near and dear
And when we're makin' memories
Happy days can reappear

All around us In our ever-changing world We can see the galaxy Of photographs unfurled Light and shadows From all corners of the Earth Tell the story of our times Our pride, our dreams, our worth.

One! More! Time!

Makin' memories
Makin' memories
Takin' pictures is makin' memories
Catchin' little pieces of time
Makin' 'em yours and makin' 'em mine

Great vacations and celebrations
We love to hold near and dear
When we're makin' memories
Happy days can reappear
Look at the birdie!
