Snowglobe worries....

Hey all,
Just read that a person wasnt allowed to bring the snowglobe on as hand luggage - as it contains liquid. We were planning on buying a particularly nice snowglobe as a souvenir - also a glass item of some sort. Will we not be able to bring our snowglobe on?? If so should we have it shipped from the shop when we very first purchase it?? How much does it cost to ship a large snowglobe to the UK ( ballpark figure)?? Would appreciate as many responses as possible. We will only be 19 and 20 when we travel (just) and really dont want to have any hassles at the airport.
Another thing actually, what do we do if we buy crystal items?? Do we put them in our luggage rather than hand luggage?? Please help!

Also, Disney does not like to combine shipping from store to store unless the store you are shipping from carries the items you're trying to ship (and even then it's frowned upon.) So say you buy a crystal item from the Art of Disney and carry it over with you to the World of Disney. When you get to the WOD, you buy a snowglobe and ask them to ship it home for you. You then ask if you can throw in your crystal item that you carried with you because you didn't want to pay for shipping at both the Art of Disney and the World of Disney. They will tell you no because the WOD doesn't carry any crystal Art of Disney pieces.

Actually the reverse is true for us this past trip. The main Magic of Disney store in the marketplace shipped everything we had for one fee. We had some glass christmas ornaments from the Christmas store we purchased earlier that afternoon, and we asked if they could combine the items... and their manager was more than happy to take care of that for us. It was a little longer because we had to fill out a separate shipping slip... but they told us it was not a problem.

we ship everything we get on the last day we are there. there is a good shipping place out along i-4 near the disney outlet center the last time we mailed home 3 snowglobes and a bunch of other things and it showed up 3 days later with everything ok and it was only like 13 bucks well worth not having to take back on the plane. on the other hand we shipped one of those dolls home from the germany sections of epcot and it was 30 bucks for that.

Really dumb question. Is it possible to drain the water out of the larger globes, then refill it when you get home? (though you'd have to replace the glitter as well as the water)

We had it wrapped in the original box and I guess they know to look out for snowglobes. I'd send it from Disney-we were originally going to send everything home that we bought and it was about $20 to ship. Some of the snowglobes are beautiful and I wouldn't take a chance putting it into checked luggage. Have fun!

You must've gotten a good manager on a good day They always told us that no matter what, we couldn't do Post Sale Shipping if the World of Disney didn't carry the item that the person was trying to ship. The WOD does carry a small selection of ornaments, so maybe since they carried similar items they did it.

I was just at WDW and bought a snow globe and brought it home on my carry on. There was no problem with the tight security. It was wrapped in the cardboard box and plastic it came in.

How long ago though? Since the new regulations this summer, liquids, even those in snow globes are not permitted.

I just got home from DW on Tuesday. I purchased a snowglobe and tried to
carry it on,(because they are expensive of course), and the airport security
said no. I had to literally re-pack my checked bag in the front lobby of Orlando Intl, so if you are going to buy a snowglobe, make sure you have room in your checked bags, and do it before you get to the airport.

The price for shipping has gone up. Here are the charts I found: http://allearsnet.com/tp/mailorder.htm. We learned the hard way since shipping was affordable a year ago. We stayed at Poly this year. We went to the Boutiki and asked for a box. We packed our own items in it and took it to the front desk and had them ship it home. It was about $20 UPS and we insured it there so we could get a replacement if something happened. The same box would have cost us $75 to ship from the stores. Just be careful what you ship and make sure it is insured in case something happens.
