I don't remember where I heard it or read it.. but supposedly the mixture was created by Disney so as to minimize the "soap" bubble problems. I assume the "machine" still uses the same basic pricipal of "blowing" across a thin round layer of the mixture.

I'd be interested in hearing an insider give us more details about the process also. It's a grand site to see during the MVMCP!

I believe Antari makes most of our newer snow machines. Basically a soap suds mixture that seeps out of a cloth-like cone, then gets blown outward by a powerful built-in fan. The result? Thousands of small soap particles.

We then shoot the snow with PAR cans lighting fixtures that have a bright blue gel in it...this gives the snow a "glowing" effect as it falls in the night.

Interesting! I've never paid much attention to the blue lighting effect. Where are those lights placed and in which direction are the pointed? Are they pointed horizontal across the street? Upward? Downward?

^Thanks! A couple more questions...
How far are the machines placed from the edge of the roofs?
Are the machines the kind that dampens the noise or is the noise simply covered up by music?

We use Snow Machines. I think we use the BM80 - Silent Storm Snow Machine. i think its something like 15 on each side on Main Street, asnd about 12 in other places.

The snow machines and variable-speed blower fans are placed almost right on the edge of the roof and cabled off so they don't fall. They are noisy, and you CAN hear them if you listen close enough...especially if it's quiet enough. BUT usually the sound of the background music and people talking drown out the machines. It just sounds like a bunch of fans.

How far apart are they? Tell us more! Please!

Uh...20-25ft maybe? It's a really simple theatrical effect, I promise! But it lights up the eyes of hundreds of thousands of guests during the Holiday season. Makes all that slimy snow juice worthwhile :)
