Hi again!
I know that everyone's feet are different, but I wanted to ask....what sneakers do you suggest for running in? what do you prefer and why?
My husband bought me a pair of Asic's for xmas and i like them but I wanted to get a 2nd pair....i wanted to try a lightweight sneaker but when i tried a pair on, they didn't have that cushiony feeling i got from my Asic's so i didn't buy them.
Famous Footwear is having a sale on athletic sneakers and i would like to get a 2nd pair but there are sooooooooooo many out there.
So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Shoes are a tricky one! Lots of different opinions and at the end of the day, it is what works for you. I personally use ASICS Kayano, and since they work for me, I never switch. I'm very happy with them.

Lightweight shoes will probably never match the amount of cushioning you get from a heavier weight shoe. So you might be chasing the impossible there.

I think the best advice might be to go to a specialized running shop, where you can try them on with a professional. They also often give trial periods where you can return them after wearing them if you don't like them.

Good luck!

Saucony Ride 3's. I was professionally fit for 3 different shoes. These felt the best so I got them. I didnt care about color etc.

Im on my 3rd pair in about 12 months.

Love them.

Very true. I wouldnt buy any at a mall shop just because they are on sale. Your feet are very important to stay healthy.

Thank you all!!!!
i found a store that specializes in running sneakers, going to take a ride there monday or tuesday, spoke to my friend she said they watch you walk, and measure your foot and they fit you to the right sneaker, and my friend bought the sneaker they told her and she felt it was perfect for her, so will try that this week, thanks everyone!

If you found a model that is comfortable and works for you, I'd stick with it. Be aware that many running shoe manufacturers will slightly modify their shoes from year to year. Even though the model may be the same, their "updates" often change the shoe enough that it is not the same and may no longer be like your old, favorite pair. I could recommend 50 different new models, but unless you try them on and put some mileage on them, you won't know if they're the best show for you.

I have tried the Asics Kayano, Saucony 3 (i think) but have now settled on the Brooks Adreniline 11. The others worked well for me but my Brooks just seem to feel better on my feet than the others. It may take a couple tries to find the ones that you like the best. Definitely best to get fitted at with a running specialist. I overpronate when I run and they were able to recommend a shoe that helps with that problem. Once you find a model that you like you can shop around online for them too. I just replaced my last pair of Brooks and was able to buy a pair on Amazon that was a bit cheaper than my running store. The only running store around here is 40 miles from my house so Amazon helps that way too!

Well, I'd tell you what I like, but every time I find a model I love, they seem to stop making ti within a year or two! :brick: I loved my Nike Kantaras, but they stopped making it. I settled on Asic Kayanos for awhile. Then Nike came out with Equalons to replace the Kantara, and I love them, but they have stopped making them as well (which reminds me, I really should stock up on some online), so I will soon have to switch again. Sigh. The one thing I will say is that unless you are going to some serious speed, if you like the cushioning of a support shoe, stick with it.

well i am no expert runner "yet" lol so serious speed, i doubt it, i am running roughly 11 to 12 min. per mile.....
but i do like the cushiony feeling....i don't want to waste money on a light weight sneaker and not like the way it feels when i run...
 so i am hoping when i go to the running store, i'll be fitted the right way.

Runners World has their Spring Shoe Guide in the latest edition. They have recommendations based on foot type, gait, etc.

In addition to having someone at a running shoe store fit you you can try the "paper bag test" and can look at old pairs of running shoes and determine amount of cushioning and stability that you may require. You will likely have to try at least a few makes & models before you find something you really like and that works for you.

If anyone on this thread is interested, Newton recently released slightly re-designed models and new colors. Alot of running stores are discounting the older models, so there is a rare opportunity to get the Newtons on sale. They are a great natural running shoe for efficient runners or those looking to transition to midfoot/forefoot striking.

Have you tried minimalist/barefoot running shoes?

I began running again recently and my knees and ankles were killing me. I do have an online store specialized in selling sneakers so I had the opportunity to try at least 5-6 different running shoes, asics kayano, nike lunartrainer, mizuno elixir, asics nimbus and at least two three more pairs that I do not remember. Nothing changed until I switched to minimalist/barefoot running shoes. I run about 5 miles 5 times a week and so far have not had any problems. I use vibram bikila, newton mv2 and new balance minimus 00 road now and each one of them works for me. I got so impressed that I even created a website about those kind of shoes - http://www.shoes-barefoot-running.com/
You may want to check it out It is still a work in progress but there are som articles and medical research you may be interested in

My first race was the Disney half in 2006. After some bad shoe choices & recommendations & a stress fracture, I got my first pair of Newtons and ran the half again in 2008 - better than 30 minutes faster. I'm on pair 5 of Newton & dispite prior history of knee injuries, I've been pain/injury free since. 40+ races of 10 mile to marathon later, I'm completely sold on Newton, whether it's shoes or the change in form they helped facilitate, they're the most comfortable shoe for me. Looking forward to the upcoming sir Isaac update. I need a second pair for Goofy 2013.
