Smelling Spaceship Earth at Home - How to!

On a recent visit to WDW, my wife and I were able to try the Lapsang Souchong Tea offered at the Twinnings Shop at EPCOT. Much to our surprise this smell was identical to the "Burning of Rome" smell experienced while riding Spaceship Earth.

We picked up a box for that reason alone. It tastes like a campfire ... and smells like Spaceship Earth. - Good Stuff -

It got me wondering what they actually do use on the ride, or maybe it is this tea, and it's just a little known disney secret!

Man, you would be right at home in this thread! You're a Disney freak. Prove it!

:sohappy:

A funny story: On my last trip, during the "burning Rome" section, my wife tried to talk to me about something. I said to her, "Shh! I'm trying to smell the fire!"

Here's another way to smell the "Burning of Rome" - If you have a fireplace in your home, next time you light a fire, close the flue and fill the house with smoke (and then open it again before it gets too bad of course). You'll be reminded for the next several days by the smell of stale smoke :)

sorry to ruin the magic, but it's just basically sulfur that causes the smell (this isn't a secret, we tell the guests if asked or if they have a service animal)

Of course, when I saw the title of this thread, the first thought through my head was: "Wearing the same costume seven days straight without washing it."

One time when I was on Spaceship Earth, we stopped right at the Dark Ages scene for at least 20 minutes. I personally don't care much for the smell, but I guess a lot of you would love to stop right there.

Fire Place Optional: You really don't need to own a firelplace to get that realistic feeling about the destruction of ones society and property.

I don't think I would like the taste of that tea. Although the smell would be nice.

where can i find some sulfur so i can fill my house with it? ....

me: hey guys, guess what?!?! my house smells like its burning down!!

friends: thats probably not a good thing

me: no, i just used sulfur....u know like from SSE?

friends: no its definately not a good thing...look behind you

me: $h!t, i didnt want it actually to burn down.

The moral of this story: you can never replicate disney magic without burning your house down. unless you actually go and experience it at the parks.

Me: Hey, look, I made my own Country Bear Jamborie in my living room.

Friends: Uh, I think your "Country Bears" are really possums. Pretty unhappy possums at that.

Me: No, they're real Country Bears, like at Disney World!

Friends: Um, your "Country Bears" just got into your fireplace and knocked a log out. Now your house is burning down.

Me: Dangit!! Stupid Country Bears!!!

WOW!

The tea doesn't strike me as very appetizing, and I'm a big tea drinker! Tastes like a campfire? HAHA! :hurl:

The best way to get the "burning village" scent is to simply take a piece of cork and light one end of it on fire for a minute. Blow out the flame and it will smell like Rome is bruning forever. Keep it in a ziplock bag for whenever the mood strikes you!

Seriously, no need to get into why I was burning cork, but it will smell like that FOREVER! Trust me! :p

HAVE FUN!
