I picked up the "Unoficial Guide" and they said that Small World underwent renovations for a new sound system that would allow them to Chritsmastize the ride and have the first ever holiday edition for 2006.... any word on whether or not its happening?

We went Monday. No signs of a Small World Christmas.

Interesting that they would print that but its nothing more than an error. We have a better chance of getting the HMH before we ever even heard talk of bringing IASWH here.

And with the discontinuation of the CBJ Christmas Special, I doubt were going to be getting holiday overlays on any rides.

IASW's sound system was replaced because the sound system in there was from 1971. Very old, very run down, and not very pretty sounding...

The only reason that Country Bear christmas overlay didn't happen this year was because it diddn't increase the guest flow. If Disney has data that supports a Christmas overlay to IASW I'm sure we may see it one day. :xmas:

Perhaps the extensive rennovation laid the groundwork and supports for an overlay, but there are no indications that we're going to receive a it's a small world holiday version. It would require a seasonal closure and we would have heard rumblings about it months ago.

Please don't present your own speculation as fact. That's how really bad rumors get started. Considering every resort has gotten it's a small world holiday but Walt Disney World, and considering how insanely it boosts the attendance, I would not discount it as a possiblity. Obviously not for 2006 (and there-in lies the actual error) as it's already 12/7 and the overlay takes at least two weeks to install (and typically longer for a first time install).

Basing this solely on the "hasn't been updated since 1971" logic doesn't prove much- because by that logic Haunted Mansion, Snow White, Peter Pan, etc, etc all should have closed for the sound system upgrade. Plain and simple fact is that if an overlay *were* planned for the future, such a referbishment would be the required first step.

Tentatively joining the conversation considering people are already getting a bit testy. But I stopped getting the 'Unofficial Guide' after noticing that they tended to place items like this in their info. Like the year that "Star Wars : Phantom Menace" came out the guide said Star Tours would be closed for part of the year so that it could be redone to tie into the pod race from the film. They didn't make it sound like a rumor but something that would be done. Now we know it got talked about but never got close to being a done deal. Guess I'm just saying, take their info with a grain of salt.

I'm also saying LEAVING TOMORROW!!!!! 10 days!!!!! Tickets to 3 of the Christmas parties at Magic Kingdom, Candlelight Procession and Hoop De Doo!!!! YEEEE-HAAAA!!!!!

Holiday overlays aren't as important to WDW as they don't have the local pull that other Disney Parks have. They may have a large pull in California but thats mostly because of the locals. For the most part people who are going to visit WDW are going to do it reguardless of any overlays.

The "hasn't been updated since 1971" logic is actually quite sound. The whole attraction was looking and sounding tired. The update allowed them to bring the attraction up to date and also to bring the DL look to WDW. While yes the update would be the first step required to do an overlay that doesn't mean it's coming.
