Slow lines on Test Track

We took an impromptu trip to WDW and Universal this past weekend after coming oh so close to getting on a Disney Cruise. EMH at night at Disney, first at MK, then DHS. Tuesday morning before heading back we went to EPCOT for a bit. Fastpasses at Soarin' were already for after 2pm when we arrived around 10am. No new passes until after 12, so we went to check out Test Track. The line was outside, which is not unusual, and the wait time was at 30 minutes. One of the cms was telling folks that 45 minutes to an hour was more realistic, but that would put us in the WS just after it opened, and we waited.

An hour later we reached the last bend in the queue and could see the lines and doors to the design rooms. We waited another 20 minutes while the Fastpass line was wheedled down with just one row of stand-by queue line people going in for every 7 from the the FP line (x up to 8 people in a line, most doubled up on a number). So, in all, it took us about an hour and forty-five minutes to ride Test Track on a day that we walked into the Italian restaurant with no reservations, waited 10 minutes for Maelstrom, and were otherwise surprised that it was so slow (people waiting for the Friday opening of the F&WF).

So! When did they start merging the Fastpass line into both design rooms??? Every time I've used a Fastpass I either skipped past the design stage, or they only used one of the two rooms for the line. Expect to have long standby lines if they continue this trend with at least an hour wait if the line is outside when you arrive.

We rode it on Sunday. 50 minutes wait and that was with the line starting 30' inside the doors. While I can say I liked the ride itself better than the old version (braces for flaming) I will say that I thought there was not a way to make the queue more boring than it was previously...clearly I was wrong. Two concept cars, pics on the wall and four interactive screens that nobody seems to figure out what to do with make the wait absolutely mind numbing...along with the incessant soundtrack from overhead.

But...like I said I felt that TT 2.0 is actually more enjoyable. The old one was fun too but I wasn't a frothing fan of it so the new changes were welcome. The outside part of the ride is actually kind of boring for me as I own a convertible and have fun driving it so it is kind of ho-hum for me but I know I am in the minority there.

Single rider line usually works out to ten minutes or less for us.

At least since September 7th, when I used a fastpass (plus, not that it matters) and was sent to the main design rooms with all the standby people.

Was the single rider line running? after riding together my group went through a couple more times as single riders and with that one you just do the abbreviated pre-sculpted design (if at all).

They started trying to get the FP guests into the full design area for a while. Apparently there were alot of complaints about the abbreviated design process. Unfortunately since the queue wasn't set up for this, it adds time to the process to route the FP guests in, even more than if they were just merging.

I believe they merge the lines for the design room and if you have a fast pass you can skip the design process and proceed forward where you wait in another 15-20 minute line (when wait time is considerably long)

It's been going on for a while. Between the merged lines, the frequent breakdowns, and the crowds of people who seem to believe that this attraction is a bit more than it actually is, Test Track can be a bit of an investment of time.

My Dh and a friend went on TT last week with a FP. They both designed their cars. They're both engineers, so that was the most enjoyable part for them. If they would have missed the design element, I'm sure the ride would have been lost on them. Instead, I got to hear for the entire World Showcase how they both had top design. It was like I was with a 10 year old at the Pinewood Derby:rolleyes:

The single rider line was open, however I do not remember what the wait was. With our 6 year old DD we always go together with a Fastpass or in standby. This was at least the 6th time we've run it on standby since 2.0 debuted and it was the first time it took over an hour. And we've been in longer lines at the beginning. They just are making it a cluster at the design rooms now.

My DS (and I) like the design portion also. It is the only reason we would go through the standby line. So, with the merging of lines it looks like we can skip the standby portion. Disney needs to get those boards updated quicker, though, for the standby line.

When we were there 2 weeks ago... I thought it was just down right DUMB how they have everyone make a car.. then bam! all are stuck in a tiny little room together which slowly turns into a single line and wraps and wraps some more... What genius did that design flaw?

EDIT: I also noticed the FP+ entrance did not even have 1 of the design computers on!

Are all the problems with the pre and post-design queues actually effecting ride capacity?
I mean, the ride vehicles are still being loaded as fast as they can load them, right? It's not as if they're sending empty vehicles around the track.
