Disney Skyliner shutdown and evacuation - October 6 2019

Not even the first week of operation and there's already been a crash, looks like Disney is just now starting evacuating the cabins one by one just 90 minutes after the initial shutdown. Hope Disney can get a refund on this absurd investment

We just exited Hollywood studios and talked to several people who were exiting the gondolas and told us they witnessed the accident. they said they could hear people screaming and yelling on the other side of the line right before the crash. They were clearly shaken and nervous and said they will never ride it again and warned everybody around us not to either.

a CM was killed operating a monorail. There have been many bus crashes. This system isn’t going anywhere.
I do really want to know how this occurred. And hopefully no one was seriously injured.

How would that have happened? Isn't Riviera pretty far from Hollywood Studios? Or did they just get evac'd?

Yeah because the monorail and peoplemover have never had to have been evacuated...

You can evacuate a peoplemover or monorail easier than individual ski resort sky boxes held by a wire

Ten years ago the monorail got the worst press ever when two trains collided, killing a cast member. Seems like ridership is at an all time high these days!

Just to give you an idea of how unbelievably complicated it is to evacuate a single cabin, here's a video. According to Twitter its taken a single fire engine about 20 minutes to get the lift up to a single cabin. Assume they have secure everyone in the cherry picker, slowly lower it back down, disembark, and go back up for the rest of the cabin. Then they have to retract the stabilizers on the truck, reposition the truck for the next cabin and repeat. Fire truck cherry pickers are not fast. This is going to be a long night.

This is bad. A black eye for Disney regardless of the reason behind this.
