Skipper Canteen officially changes menu

There isn't any pork belly on the menu at Skipper Canteen? But belly is ALWAYS fatty, so lends itself to long slow cooking.

The Char Sui pork on the menu at Skipper Canteen should be a grilled escalope.
I had some pork belly bao a few weeks ago.. I guess I know what I'm having for dinner now..

We had Tables in Wonderland when it cost $75 for DVC members. Now, it's $150. We'd have to spend so much money eating out to break even, it's ridiculous. Plus, we already get 10% discounts for our AP and DVC memberships to many places. Disney is killing the card off simply by making it no longer worth it.

It used to be tenderloin until about 3 months ago.

Also, the Mac has always been pastitsio. Which was the problem haha. People ordered expecting it to be safe. Which it wasn't.
Ah! Thanks for the heads up. I just knew that when I had eaten there is was pork tenderloin which had been escaloped.

Edited to add a recent picture I found on Yelp. It's definitely pork belly now. I wish they would have had that version when I ate it, as mine was really dry and chewy.

Yep that is pork belly in the picture, so yet again Disney are switching to cheaper cuts of meat but keeping the price the same.

Belly would be OK if it is cooked long and slow, barbecue style. But if they are quick grilling it in the same way you would a steak, its not going to come out well.

Yep! I just bought a 5 lb pork belly for something like $11. It appears they are using about 8 oz (at most...maybe) and charging $24. That must be expensive rice! ;)

Its possible they are just grilling a pre cooked cut for some extra flavor.. A braised porkbelly would be the bees knees but wont know until i try it.

Objectively, I would advise killing the program if I were in charge too. If someone is going to buy enough food to make the card worth it, theyd buy it anyway.

We've had the card since it (they) were $50 and you got two cards. So we're quite used to it being there. And even though the price has tripled for us, we still buy enough to make it pay, and do so within typically three months.

So we can afford to buy the food without the card, but would we do so? Possibly, but if so, we'd be doing it significantly less frequently. Why would we intentionally buy food at WDW when we by necessity drive past dozens if not hundreds of decent restaurants to get there? Right now, we get an incentive to eat on property, which would disappear if the TiW goes away. A lot of times, it is the little things that move you one way or another, and the TiW card provides that push. This to me would be another example of Disney stooping over to pick up pennies while the dollars go flying by overhead.

Love this place. It's theme and interesting menu fit perfectly in Adventureland. We had dinner recently in the Jungle Room. No complaints, other than that my wife decided to try the pork belly and was disappointed/unaware how fatty it was going to be. When she mentioned it to the waitress we were given a golden FP ticket.
Goodness just what is a golden fastpass these days with fastpass+????:)

It is just another example of them wanting those first and one time guests who are willing to shell out more money than a regular or local. There is no reason to phase out this program other than they don't want your money anymore. In order for disney to lose money on these cards... well... they cant!! They food prices are already inflated, and this is fine, most people are "captive" on the property. Supply and demand and all that. They just want to have those seats open for people who are willing to pay full price with no discounts or promotions.

I ate there last week and I loved the food. I had the mac& cheese and I thought it was delicious. I had so much that my boyfriend finished off the rest after he ate the pork he ordered. The new picture looks tiny and way less creamy. I would never order the renamed pasta dish with that menu pic. At least not at the price they're asking for.

We ate in the SEA Room, and my only disappointment was that our waitress wasn't really playing along with the theme. We were expecting Jungle Cruise style jokes, but it was pretty much just normal restaurant service other than calling our ice water "river water." Maybe that's all it's intended to be, but we were expecting more because of the theme and it seemed like other servers nearby were getting laughs out of their tables.

Did you have to ask for the SEA room or did they just seat you there? I want the butterfly booth! :)

We asked for the SEA room and ended up in that butterfly booth, which was fun. The place was half empty at noon, so having our request accommodated wasn't a problem. I was a little surprised that they stuck a party of two in that big booth though.

The one time I've been, the two of us sat in that same booth, I loved it! And even though there's that huge bench all the way around, the table is pretty small, we had to juggle our plates a couple of times throughout the meal...
