Well you have made a good start by coming on here .

I havent been before but i have looked through all new and old threads thats useful

Also have you got a guide book yet...i only have bought 3 but have 5 intotal

I seem to be consumed by WDW at the moment .

Read and read then plan and plan ( mind you make it flexible ).....from the minute you leave home to the last minute at disney

Remembering hes young and will need plenty of rest drink and snacks. So take it easy sometimes ....a bad tempered 17 month old isnt a pretty site.
Ask anything on here they are great at giving advice.
Keep an eye on the weather too so you now how to pack and what stuff to take.

And entertainment for the plane as well .
How long are you going and whats dates im there in Oct as well.

135 days to go

I will be at disney from oct 14th -oct 19th.

I really don't know what I can plan knowing that he will probably just walk in circles and go crazy when we go to the Crystal Palace to see Pooh

You have come to the right place. With a 17 month old, you have to go on his schedule. We learned with our 18 month old not to expect alot but to relax and let him enjoy. Our son really enjoyed the parades, Small World, Dumbo. but where we went wrong was to first do Pirates and he was rather apprehensive the rest of the rides. Then we did Haunted Mansion and he got stiff and wanted to cry. He would start to tap every time he was scared. So we just did the rides that were well lit. He also enjoyed the Electric Water Parade and especially the WDW train. He was at a very cute age and was beginning to talk. To hear him yell "MickMou" was priceless.

oh no! crystal palace closed. is there any other places to eat that have pooh.

As for Pooh we watch him every day and his whole room is pooh so hopefully he won't be scared.

As for parades is there a best spot or better yet how can I keep him occupied until the parade starts.

I am a single mother and make the Disney rounds every 2 years or so. She is eight and has been there enough times to know what she wants to do and what she has no intention of doing. However, we took her first trip when she was about your son's age. I just took it easy. I would stick to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. Really pace yourself. Enjoy it. Don't buy all the rushy rushy to see everything crap they sell you in some of those guide books. If he gets tired, stop...go back to the hotel, taske a nap, go to the pool...It will be so much more enjoyable for both of you. Small world, Dumbo, Poo...all those rides should be fine....Snow white may scare the crap out of him. Don't be surprised either if he is terrified of the characters at first.. Don't push them on him..Try a character meal at Chef Mickey's...That is great fun..I hope you got a hotel on-site...It will make those "breaks" in the ay easier. Again, these are essential if you want your little man to make the night parades. I hope I helped out a little. I will also be there in October. It will be our 4th trip and we will staying at CBR for the first time. It took me a few trips to get that rush outta me. I know I'm going back again, so I more or less let the trip navigate itself...I plan meals..If we change our mind when we get there , we just cancel. It is relaxing and we see everything in time. Hey! I have an excuse to go back if I miss things. LOL

Have a great trip!!! I'm starting to babble.... :D

Pooh will be at Tony's Town Square while Crystal Palace is closed.

My son went to Disney for the first time at 19 months. Here is what he liked the most: Small World, Dumbo (Alladin and Tricertops spin at AK are similar thrills with shorter lines which have since opened), TTA, Tommorland Speedway, Winnie hte Pooh's Honey pots, Peter Pan, The Train, Country Bear Jamboree, Parades, Beauty and the Beast Show, Bear in the Big Blue House show (AKA Playhouse Disney), Kilanmanjaro Safaris, Live shows in Epcot's Wolrd Showcase, The Boat Ride in Mexico, Spaceship Earth, Journey into your Imagination, Food Rocks and The Land Boat Ride.

Some of the above rides are dark, but otherwise Okay. Anything with a drop (even a little one like in Norway) would make him scared and clingy for the next several rides.

Take advantage of the Baby Care Centers. They are ni, quiet, air conditioned places for your little guy to unwind soem even have toddler toys and movies. The yare highly underutilized.

Like so many others have said, take your time and go at your little guy's pace. If he wants to ride Small World over and over again, let him. It's fun just to watch their faces light up at this age.

Also, to get my kids used to the larger th life characters before our first visit we went to every "character" thing I could think of for a few months before our first trip. When Clifford was at Banes and Noble we went, we saw the Easter bunny several time etc. Many visitwere just looking from afar and talking aboutHay htere's hte Easter Bunny", etc. By hte time we got to Disney my little man was no longer timid aorund characters at all.

Thanks for the suggestions. All the rides you metioned will probably make me sick. but if he likes them I will do it for him.

He should like the animal kingdom, and magic kingdom.
and I think he will love the parades. as for the Characters we had his party at Chucky Cheese and he loved him, and His daycare had a Pooh and Piglet come in and he did great.

My son does not like to take naps when there is action going on so I might have to force him to take one.

as for the daycare I might use that.

Does anyone know how Port orleans french quarter is.
Like I said I heard their may be alot of room for him to run and the pools look great.?

you might want to check out the Infant and Toddler FAQ at www.wdwig.com as well as their list of childcare options, and lists of the MOST kid friendly retraunts at the world. I've read a lot of good things about the Fairy Godmother's childcare service in the Unofficial Guide as well as on wdwig, but I have never used it myself.

I forgot ot mention earlier that some of the rides are very loud for a little one--we took earplugs which really helped. We also gave our son a glow in the dark necklace to wear which occupied him so much during the really dark parts of some attractions that we never found out if the darkness might have bothered him otherwise.

I read an interesting article in the local paper that told the story of parents who took their young child to MK and figured out that they should let the child spend as much time in FantasyLand, as the child wanted. Yes it may be boring for the parent, but the child does not know what else is in the MK and the entire Fantasy Land experience for a young child, Small World, Peter Pan, Dumbo, the Carousel, Pooh, is plenty for a child of that age. The kid loved it and everyone was happy. The parents weren’t pushing the kid around from land to land and ride to ride. They just stayed in fantasyland for the day.

I would recommend the parades also for children of that age. My kids, when they were that young, sat on the curb and just watched the entire parade with smiles on their faces.

I also recommend that you go to the park as early as you can, do the rides in the morning, hop back to the hotel for a mid-day nap, and then return to the park for the evening. We did this with my kids and we usually ended up staying at the park to closing time. This works when the closing time is late, like 9 to 11PM. If it closes before 7 it may not work. Thsi will also let you see Spectromagic without teh child falling asleep in your arms.

rjmagic16, I'll bet you and your son have a great time! Don't forget, though, that WDW is HUGE, and it can be very overwhelming for a little one. You might find he's a bit crankier than he usually is, so be patient, take it slow, and let him set the pace!:animwink:
