Since flash doesn't always make for a great picture...

Like I mentioned in another thread, I finally got my P80. Loving it. I haven't needed to really use the flash a whole lot since I've been trying to teach myself the settings and how to tweak them. Not to mention, my flash is BRIIIIIGHT!!

What are some good "jumping off point" settings that can be used as a default then slightly tweaked if needed for situations where you don't always want to use a flash? Like character meals where you'd blind your family and the characters otherwise? In ride so you're not "that guy" with the flash popping. With the brightness of my flash, if I tried using it during Spectro or Wishes, they'd see it clear on the other side of the park hehe. Oh! What do yall use for food pics too? Because you know.. I wouldn't want to blind the prime rib or anything! :p

using the flash is "boo" most of the time ..makes it worse than without

for dime light situations try cranking the iso up so that you exposure time can go down.

flashing at fireworks isn't "that" usefull(sarcasm) ..... it won't help at all in manual and makes it worse in auto mode ... so turn it off

LOL Ya.. You know what that reminds me of? Do you remember that Donald cartoon in the Grand Canyon where he's riding the donkey and all you can see is flash.. flash..flash..flash..

Its the same thing when you see all those flashes in the stands of sporting events.... That little flash goes a good 5-10 feet. Youre just lighting up the people in front of you....

LMAO you know I did that once. I was sitting on the ground trying to get some flashless pics of the fireworks. Everyone around me was sitting. My tripod had just broken a day or so before so I was trying. This couple comes and stands RIGHT in front of us (and everyone in our immediate area). I was so mad at the rudeness, I took a flash picture on purpose to "capture the moment". LOL I figured when the thread of "rude people pics" came up I'd be prepared. :drevil:

I've been playing with lots of settings on the P80, Dave. It's coming along. I'm reading about the technical stuff but only getting through a few paragraphs at a time before grabbing my camera and running to try to practice what I just read. I've gotten some cool shots. Sometime this weekend, I'm going to get my husband to drive around (at a Kilimanjaro speed) and practice with playing with settings in that situation to see what works best. I know on my old Canon A640 the auto setting sucked for Kilimanjaro. Funny thing is though, I got an awesome shot of the USS Alabama hanging out the window going 80 mph on automatic. Conditions seemed the same except we were going faster than the safari.
