Ok my planning has started for 2015.. All going well the QS free DDP will be offered, but we were hoping to do either Shula's or Yachtsman, but my DS has talked me into doing both..Here's my question..Would it be acceptable to miss out starters and go straight onto the main course. We all want to try the steaks and if there's any room left, have a dessert..Also I noticed at Shula's there's no sauces with the steaks, could we order a peppercorn, for example.? Many thanks.;)

Many times we go right to the "meat of the matter" and order the entrée just enjoying a drink while we wait. DS & I are just the opposite, we like beef without the sauce and ask for it to be left off so I can't help you there. We do both, Shula's and Yachtsman, most trips usually one on the 2nd night of the vacation and one the 5th night of our vacation.

With my family, when we go out, we rarely order appetizers, almost always skip desserts and just order entrees. I assume it's purely for financial reasons though there is an argument that my parents don't want to overstuff ourselves either. They never say the latter out loud but it's always implied. The wait, however, can be really boring. In all seriousness, I would definitely order different or even additional items that would be considered taboo by my parents if I were dining by myself or with people who typically don't give a hoot about what I eat...

Never done Shula's, but Yachtsman has a pretty good charcuterie plate. It's also not a lot of food. And if you want to save more room for a 32oz porterhouse, split it. In fact, vegetables come on the side, agree on one and split that too.

I've never had dessert there because I've never had room (and I've never gotten anything bigger than the 12oz strip).

on shulas, the fact that they are known for their steaks and that they don't do sauce tells you that they have steaks where you want to taste the beef and nothing else. (If a person could only eat beef once a year, I'd tell them to get the best tasting beef they can and season it with kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper *only*, and then *only* grill it if they can do it perfectly - otherwise stick to cast iron).

ps.. the 12oz strip is the only 'dry aged' steak on the roster.

I have no idea on how much you eat. I only can tell you what I would do.

I never went to Shula's, but I went to Yachtsman before. I think the steak Yachtsman offers is smaller than Shula's.

Sometime I get appetizers at local places, I wouldn't do it at the 2 places your are mentioning.

My reasoning goes to 3 reasons:

1.) I don't want to get so full that I can't move after eating if I have plans on going to Epcot or DHS after eating.
2.) I don't live in Florida and that means bringing food to your hotel isn't a good move since I never had a microwave inside the hotel room.
3.) I went to a local steakhouse before with starters and I ended up with leftovers for the next day.

I can't answer any questions regarding the specific restaurants or their steaks (though I would love to try both of them), but whenever DH and I go out for dinner we very rarely (we're talking once in a blue moon) order a starter or appetizer! If we do, always just split one and even then usually end up taking half of our dinner home so we don't over stuff ourselves.

Would not hold your breath on the QDP being offered. We have just returned from spending three weeks at POR and what a difference a year makes. The resort was packed with Turismo's who appeared to get all rooms facing the River. All full paying customers were being allocated rooms at the back and facing the car park. WDW was the busiest we have ever seen it and at most parks all quick service diners were full of Turismo,s eating their own food with even cast members showing them to seats as others moved out. There were no seats for people who wanted to use their QDP or paying customers. We returned from our vacation with 48 outstanding QDP.
A lot of the Quick Service Diners do don't display that they do QDP. Last year there was a little sign on each item that was on the QDP. Most of the Drink Stations you could only use your Snack option for espresso coffee not regular or cappucino etc. You now have to use a pin number with your card and they were all asking do you want it charged to your room and you had to state "No QDP Please"
As for your steak you will not beat the Ribeye at Le Cellier and the cheese soup starter is to die for. But you will have to ADR it, There is a 3 month waiting list and same for Be Our Guest if you want to eat there.

As for the sauce...I want to say that Shula's has their own brand of sauce that might be available on request; however, if a steak is listed without sauce- it's generally intended to be eaten that way. That's not to say you can't add sauce to it if offered, but the flavoring is all in the prep and it allows them to showcase the wonderful taste of the quality meat. If you've never had steak sans sauce, I would highly recommend trying it at Shula's that way.

Large groups ( and I mean large) of South American teenagers/young adults which was not a problem on the whole apart from the dining issue & POR appearing to allocate them the best rooms. When you pay for a garden view you don't expect to be facing the parkin lot, even though the CM who checked us in said it was classed as a garden view room, on reaching our room we decided this must have been because of the dense trees outside the room.o_O But at least it was quiet when we returned in the evenings after our days at the parks. And we still had a magical time in the bubble that is WDW.:D
