Significant Changes to Whispering Canyon Cafe

The biggest problem with the "hands off" cast is if the ketchup is on the opposite side of the room, quite frankly the restaurant lost its charm. They need to kill this change asap

According to Doctor Disney and various mentions over on Twitter and other methods of social media, it appears the hi-jinks and shenanigans over at Whispering Canyon Cafe have come to an end. Per the official WDWToday Twitter account, they did indeed mention that this was the end of the shenanigans that makes Whispering Canyon Cafe so famous for.

On that note, WDW did not update their website regarding the recent change.
I’m back with another update. I had breakfast at WC again today for the banana bread French toast. A few days ago during breakfast there was absolutely nothing going on in WC except normal table service. This morning was a little different. One waitress was really going to town with her tables 50’s Prime Time style. She was very loud and raspy but fun to watch. Several tables tried the kechup thing but their efforts were ignored. Our waiter and the others around us provided good but normal service. The sign is still out front explains that there will be songs and stories and can be loud. Each of waiters said that they were brand new.

ETA: The restaraunt was half empty each time we dined.

I got the ketchup treatment. There wasn’t any on my table (which, of course I found out after the fact on purpose). So in asking for ketchup, I was made to stand up and shout across the room. Naturally, people brought bottles and bottles and bottles of ketchup to me.

How about the other shenanigans....like the straws and napkins being tossed onto the table, hobby horse races, etc?

I didn’t see that while I was there.
Ok...that sounds like they've nixed most of the "fun"...I guess we won't be going there next Summer. It makes me sad....that was our favorite dining experience on our last trip, and we don't use ketchup, so that particular shenanigan wasn't part of it.

I love the ketchup thing they do. One year my daughters and I were eating there and at the next table was an extended family with the youngest being a little girl around a year old. Well the ketchup stuff was going on for a while and then the little girl, who probably spoke very few words, started saying "kesup" over and over. It was the cutest thing ever! People need to have a lighter heart, especially over stuff like this. If people enjoying themselves at a theme park resort restaurant is something that annoys you, then I think you need to lighten up a bit and enjoy the fun.

Last week we spoke to a couple of the wait staff. Many of them are brand new to WC. Much of the older staff have moved on to 50’s Prime Time of other restaurants on property. If they are to be believed, and why wouldn’t they be, business is booming. They seemed to believe that the shenanigans from the past kept more away than it actually brought in and for those coming in unaware of what was going to happen may decide not to return if they weren’t into that theatrical style meal.

It was a similar model to Dick's Last Resort (albeit Disney-ized). Not comparing food here, just general model (There were various differences). Dick's shuttered their Orlando location along with a handful of others in late 2016. I've eaten at the Orlando location and the Vegas one at the Excalibur. It was a fun experience back in the mid-2000's.

These types of places aren't exactly what you would call politically correct type of places. I was fine with it, food is just regular chain restaurant type fare, but it was okay. I'm not going to speculate on the reasoning for the WCC change, but if I had to make an educated guess......political correctness would be right up there. It is Disney after all.

Edited to say: Speaking of politically correct - the name of the establishment appears to have been censored. Think of a nickname for Richard. I meant no ill will - It is a name that many people still go by.
