That is a common college beer for those who feel Bud is beneath them (rightly so). It has a hint of hops that leaves a slight bite on the pallet afterwards. Several variations are found in stores. It beats the standard American "fizzy yellow stuff" but still not up to beer advocate level.

Care to elaborate ?

SN makes some decent beers. Many kinds of beers. Some with lots of hops, and some where a foward hop profile would not be appropriate.

I find them to be solid massproduced beers. Pretty much smack in the middle of the syle guidlines for the ones I have tried. Not pushing any envelopes, but then there is nothing wrong with being a middle of the road performer. Somhow people have gotten the notion that beer must have IBUs in the stratosphere to be called "good" lately.

More in reference to Pale ale and Summerfest. I wasn't thinking Stout or Bigfoot(one of my favorites) would be available. I never said there was anything wrong with them, just not top tier but certainly realms beyond the norm.

Oh a hundred times this.

I like my beers complicated and flavorful, not like chewing on an aspirin. IPA are the rage now and I just don't get it.

OK, I'll give you that. Summfest is anything but interesting, but then it's not supposed to be.

I used to make something very similar to Summerfest (maybe they stole it from me). "lawnmower beer" is a common term for a light, low ABV beer - you drink it while cutting the grass. As I said, I came up with one very similar to Summerfest. I called it "Garden Tractor beer" because it was a step up from lawnmower beer. Easy drinking, nothing complicated, quite frankly-cheap to make, and low enough in alcohol that when you cut the grass, the paths were still straight.

no 100 times this...

I also do not quite understand the IPA rage.

It's not just beer, it's all over the food world

If a hoppy beer is refreshing, then beer that makes you feel like you ate a spoon of alum must be wonderfill

If buttery chardonnays are nice, then one that tastes like it was fermented in a used movie theater popcorn bucket must be delicious

If a slice of cheese and some lettuce and tomato enhances a burger, then three kinds of cheese, a fried egg, 6 strips of bacon, a diced japaleno, and chipotle mayo must really bring out the flavor of that beef.

I don't know, it seems like any concept of balanced flavors has gone out the window.

Yea, I didn't mean to make it come across as I was saying it was nothing special. It is my go to for the beach and tailing (Charlotte two days ago). I was merely stating that compared to some stuff that is the norm in England it is rather weak. We all know that bitterness runs high there :sohappy: . I like that analogy. I have a recent hit for IPAs :lookaroun
