Sick/Injured While At WDW

On our last family trip to WDW my wife had heat stress symptoms about one hour into our day at AK. We went to a QS restaurant to eat and rest while she gained her composure over about 2 hours. was nauseous, headache, light headed and felt like she was going to pass out. After the two hours and things got a little bit better to the point where she felt she could walk. So after about three hours or so in the park we rode zero rides and had to leave with three kids in tow. We left the park and went to our room for the rest of the afternoon. After that she was ok the rest of our four day trip.

So DW was on the whole 30 diet or food plan. It's kinda like a Paleo type thing I guess. It clears your body and helps to see what foods you might be allergic to. This is after the 30 days you slowly add foods back into your diet like corn or rice, etc. Then you can see what might be allergic to you or not agree with you. Anyway. She did this early in hopes to be ready to enjoy our 18 yr anniversary trip this coming weekend 11/13-15. We like to look over the kiosk menus at all of the country offerings and pick and choose what we want to eat. This also helps with budgeting everything out so that we know what we are in for, or subtract what we many not want to eat or whatever.

So here we are. Down to the wire of our much anticipated trip. We have been waiting since our actual anniversary date in June. We will not have the kids for all 3 days and really be able to enjoy ourselves since we are kinda like foodies a bit.

She is more sensitive than ever before after the 30 day food plan. She cannot have gluten, corn, soy or dairy. She has to actually check the ingredients to things because let's say bacon. It may have soy or corn sugar in the ingredient list. So she either needs to find a clean bacon, or just not have it.

Point to all this is that here we are have everything planned out and almost ready to go and she most likely will not be able to eat many of the foods at the festival. So kinda bummed about it. We do the fest every year but this year will be a little of a let down. However, there are options. I know we can go to a restaurant and find things that she will be able to eat so there's no issue there. Just a disappointment that we can't really go around and enjoy the festival like in years past.

She is choosing not to just eat what looks good without knowing what's in it because she does not want to be in the parks all day and miserable with a headache and or upset stomach, etc. Which I fully support.

I will have to report back how it goes early next week.

As I am currently in a nasty battle with the cold virus, I got to thinking that it would probably be my luck if I got a cold the day before my next trip to WDW. Has anyone had to deal with being sick or hurt while at WDW, and how were you able to deal with it and still have a good visit?
We get travel insurance. Going to Disney when you are sick isn't only pointless for you as a visitor it puts others at risk... Wasn't it just last year there was an outbreak of measles on the west coast that was traced back to Disneyland?

And if you have a very bad cold I really would suggest you don't fly anywhere. I recall years ago when I got a cold on a business trip that stopped up my ears... the trip back home was torture the pain in my ears was so great I thought my eardrums were going to burst.,, If your think you have any congestion in your sinuses then I strongly urge you not to fly for your own sake.

I've been sick so many times while traveling, especially to WDW, that I now begin taking Sudafed a couple days before I even head down as a preemptive strike (which has seemed to work so far). One thing I would suggest to pretty much anyone traveling is to bring basic medications with them. Advil, Sudafed, Nyquil - whatever. The prices on property are sky high for tiny amounts, and it is far better to have it and not need it than desperately need it and have to pay through the nose for it.

I also have the added issue of being unable to take certain cold medications due to an allergy, so the one time I got sick and was without meds from home I had to have a lonnnggg chat with a CM to try to figure out a safe medication alternative, since not all were familiar brand names.
Along those lines if you have any prescription medicines that you take make sure you have them with you on your carry-on. We made the mistake of checking our daughters nebulizer and medicine for it on one trip and as luck would have it the half of the medication leaked out of the vials... where we then found the difficulty in trying to get a prescription in Florida if your from out of state... anyone wondering what your options are you can either find a new doctor in Florida that will cost you quite a bit, or if you are really lucky find someone back home that can stop by your doctors office and get another prescription that is then filled in your home state and then sent by Fed-ex to you in Florida... In other words if you lose your prescription medicine and don't live in Florida your going to pay a lot to get it replaced.

Bad case of flu. Had projectile vomiting and diarrhea most of my visit. I probably infected hundreds if not thousands of people. But nothing going to ruin my special day.
I'm liking this under the assumption that you're being purposely fecicious;)

If you utilize a national chain like Walgreens or CVS it doesnt matter which branch you get it filled at. We heavily use that option as we have houses separated by 900 miles.

On our last trip, I came down with something nasty toward the end of the trip. I started feeling iffy mid-trip, but by the end of the next-to-last day I was miserable with a cold/flu. To make things worse, it was unusually chilly in the area, even during the middle of the day. So, we ended up going back to the hotel room early that day and I slept through it. By the next morning I was mostly better and we enjoyed a final day in the MK before heading home.

Put simply: It's horrible to get sick on vacation, no matter where you are. I recommend taking whatever steps you can possibly take to avoid it.

I got a really bad cold on my last trip. I just took DayQuil and ibuprofen and pushed through. It was rough but I made it :)

I'm not sure if Florida is different because I know what you are talking about, when I was going to school in Connecticut from out of state I could get my prescription filled at the a branch there while I had the prescription on file in the other state.... But we tried to do that in Florida through a Target because that was where we had it filled at back home, and they wouldn't do it... Maybe they didn't know what they were talking about or Target is just different... I only know we had to find someone back home to Fedex out stuff to us... We even tried to just have the doctor send them a new prescription to the Florida Target but apparently he didn't have the authority to make a prescription in another state.
