Sick and leaving in two days!

We leave for nine glorious days at WDW on Thursday and I'm really bummed and frustrated because I developed a really bad head/chest cold over the weekend and I'm still feeling pretty bad today. The frustrating thing is that just last week I finished my third run of antibiotics for a nasty sinus infection that I have been battling since Christmas. As some of you may already know, I am struggling with some other health problems anyway besides having this lovely little set back so I'm really concerned that I'm gonna feel horrible the whole time I'm there.

SO...I need some cheering up folks, and maybe some tips on how to deal with this. Prayers would be awesome too.

Thanks!

edit-this probably should have been under Trip Planning.

Sending positive vibes your way man!! :sohappy:

My advice ...take it easy until you leave and get a good night sleep the day before. And just take it easy your first day or two. You are going to be there 9 days after all. Oh and make sure you take your vitamins for that plane ride. Wishing you the best possible trip!

We learned the hard way our last trip that any sign of sickness go to the doc and get a perscription for Tamiflu. My parents got the flu right before our big family vacation in March, so the rest of us rushed to the doc to get Tamiflu and we never got it. My parents did have to stay at home...we cancelled their room and they had to get a voucher for the plane. They have been on a waiting list since then to get back down to Disney, but they keep telling them its sold out!?!?! Yeah, DVC waiting list since MARCH! Supposedly EVERY SINGLE DVC room is sold out...uh huh...right. So, my parents are a lil' upset that they didnt get to Disney this year...maybe if we start making reservations now they will get to go back next year. So, REST and get healthy soon!!!!

OK, I'm a nurse and good health wishes for everyone here.
First of all, drink gatoraide or water. NO CAFFIENE as it dehydrates you and that is not good. If you get dehydrated, the junk in your sinuses and chest will become thicker and stay there forever. When you are drinking the gatoraide or water, drink lots. Drink half of your body weight in ounces. That is, if you are 200lbs, drink 100 ounces every day. [everyone get out a calculator and figure up the recommended hydration amounts]. This is daily for whenever you are healthy, also.

Get a good multivitamin, Vit C, advil, tylenol,[which ever you can tolerate] a humidifier, and vick's vapor rub.

Get a good decongestant, if your health can tolerate it. Sudafed is great, but in Indiana, you have to sign your life away to the pharmacist to get it. Zyrtec is good, too. Sudafed still rules.

Get a good expectorant. Mucinex is an example.

Do not mix over the counter meds with prescription meds. Ask the pharmacist if there are any weird side effects with all the meds you are taking.

Use good strong soft kleenex. Save the rough, cheap things for when you are well. Splurge and treat yourself. If your nose is raw, apply vasoline. It soothes.

Hot tea. Or boil a pot of water and lean over to breathe the steam. It might break some of the crud up.

Good luck, have a good time, and if anybody is in labor, let me know. I'm actually a Labor and Delivery nurse. Say Hi to Mickey for me. We're checking in May 4th. YEAH!!!!!!!

Hope for you

Well I hope you feel better.

The first and last time we where there in 2005 my wife was very ill. She didn't even get to see Animal Kingdom and MGM.

So we are looking forward to December 2008 (Our second trip) very much.

I trully hope you feel better and ride Peter Pan one time for me...

Have a great trip

Thanks again everybody for all of the prayers and encouragement. I'm feeling a little better this morning but still not "up to snuff" as my grandpa used to say. We will be leaving in just a few hours from now so continue to keep us in your prayers that we'll have a safe and fun trip.

I hope to see you there!
