Just a heads up incase you are headed to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party-

Some shows are going down because of the cold. Dream Along has been cancelled earlier in the morning and supposedly some of the Very Merry shows have been down as well. Equity can call "too cold" and the show is downed.

Is there a reason behind the 'too cold' thing? Do they not have warm enough costumes, or is it that equity cares more about safety than Disney does? The rest of us CMs have to brave the cold for hours on end, if we're not lucky enough to work indoors. :lookaroun

I think it's more the issue of singing and dancing in below-freezing temps. Mickey can stand around when it's 30 degrees out, and he'll be a cold mouse for sure, but it's not DANGEROUS.

Precisely - I've also seen shows called when it has rained or is raining and the stage is wet and slippery...

They wouldn't want to work up here in Virginia at Busch Gardens. The other weekend I was there and it was below freezing and the only thing not running was Griffon because it can't run below 40 degrees and that is the only coaster that they have running during Christmas Town.

This year they added a new show in the Italy section of the park and the theater it is in is an open air one. You could see the breath of the dancers and singers during the show because it was so cold. The park even had some snow flurries fall a couple of weekends ago and they are calling for snow this weekend, so people there Saturday night may see snow falling and if they are able to open on Sunday the park will be covered by snow.

Equity can call it "too cold" and they won't have the show. I'm sure it's part of their contract.

I've watched shows and parades, and ridden rides at DLP in the snow. The CMs wear padded costumes - I've never known one to be cancelled for cold weather (there would be no shows or parades from November - April :ROFLOL:)

Are the performers at Busch Gardens Equity? Equity is the union for professional actors, with Broadway the most prestigious Equity job. And based on the reports from a friend of mine who was in The Little Mermaid on Broadway, Disney is absolutley more concerned about show than safety.

I'm a little shocked about Dream Along. The ladies who dance wear coats or vests (I don't Know the correct term) when it's cool out at the Start and end of the show. Peter also has longer clothes on, don't know about wendy. How warm does it need to be for DAWM to run?

One person's 'reports' do not make it so.

Safety is before show, officially. Unless that changes, sorry, but your friends anecdotes aren't fact. SCSE.

I was there. He was there. OSHA was there weekly. It's fact. Just because you choose not to believe it doesn't change that. I certainly know more about it than you do. Disney refused to make certain changes for the safety of the actors because they wanted to keep the show's aesthetics a certain way. Costumes with beaded material would lose beads during every show, creating a slip hazard they refused to correct. The paint used for the steps dried in an almost plasticine way, creating a huge slip problem...something they, again, refused to correct. Costume changes were set-up in cramped stairwells , where actors are running up and down to make their cue, and would often trample each other. Believe what you want. But Disney is most certainly more concerned with show over safety...look at Disneyland and Alice in Wonderland. It took OSHA to threaten to force them to shut down the ride unless they installed a railing for worker protection. Disney had refused for decades because they didn't want to ruin the "show." And while no employee has falling and injured themselves, it's the potential for it to happen that made it dangerous.

Just to clarify a little, the dancers in DAWM are covered by Equity but all the other characters and parade performers and most dancers in shows like Disney Channel, MI SI CI, and Lion King aren't covered by the union. So its mainly because of Equity because I'm sure Disney isn't too pleased about having to cancel shows because its too cold. All the other shows and parades are able to run, but sometimes if it's too cold you'll a lot more fur characters instead of dancers in CADCT parade for example. Equity can be weird about stuff sometimes and this call about the cold I think is a little unneccesary.
