Should we not go because of smoke?

There was a faint AM smell Thursday morning. Haven't noticed it since then. Went to Blizzard Beach today and it was a PERFECT day! We leave tomorrow. :(

Thanks for the reassurance, everyone. I guess I am being weird-how could I cancel?!?! I am going nuts since I have so much to do in so little time. I know it's a week away, but with a baby, you have limited allotments to get things accomplished!

Well, I certainly understand your concern. It is just the two of us and we are both in our forties and we were concerned. If there was a 10mo old to consider, we would still be thinking long and hard about going, but it sounds like everything will be fine. Have a great trip. We are getting there on May 19.

I hope things are getting better there. We are leaving tomorrow and will be there Monday. We are staying 6 days. How were things there today?

This is from the Orlando Sentinel - I am searching FL-Dot for more current info:

Interstates 75 and 10 in North Florida remained closed this morning and state officials said a smoke alert remained in effect for much of the region affected by the massive fire. They planned to re-assess the alert but it was unlikely to change.

Some 40 miles of I-10 were closed in both directions from U.S. Highway 129 to U.S. 90, and 35 miles I-75 were closed in Florida fronm the Georgia border to Lake City. To the north, the highway was closed to Valdosta, Ga.

Other north-south routes, such as U.S. 441 were closed from the Georgia line south to State Road 100.

Sorry, I have not been able to find current road information for I-75 at the Georgia line. I don't want to be an alarmist, so does anyone have any more current info?

We just got back from a week at WDW last Friday night. We only noticed smoke on two days. One day at Magic Kingdom, the other at Epcot. The smoke didn't last very long (at Epcot we noticed the smell of smoke just before riding Ellen's Energy Adventure, when we got off the ride, the smoke was gone). The only problem we had was the drive on I75 from Ocala to the Georgia state line.

I was at Epcot and MK yesterday to celebrate my birthday. It was very clear and I was pleasantly surprised. The conditions in Tampa on Friday were so horrible that despite the fires being no where near my area we were covered in thick smoke and ash on the cars. (See the pics in my journal.) I was afraid it'd be as bad in Orlando since they're closer to the fires. It was good though. Clear and hot but not smoky.

Of course, it's changing on a day-by-day (and sometimes hour-by-hour) basis across the state due to wind shifts and such, but at least Saturday, it was blissfully clear.

I read on fl511.com that Alligator Alley is closed. Yes? No?
Yes it is. I was actually driving from Tampa and we could see the fires. They were near Alligator Alley. My friends went later and they said the fires were nearly touching the highway. My last group of friends didn't make it to Alligator Alley before it closed. They were stuck taking the long way through Orlando and got home really late. Not fun. But the fires aren't blowing this way and I live pretty close to Alligator Alley and the air has been smog-free all day. So I would expect the same in Orlando.

Wow. :lookaroun

Three weekends ago I was fishing in the canals off of the alley on the eastern side of the state. You could tell then that it was a tinder box.

Sad.
