Universal will be "staking" a new take on the classics come Halloween. 'Dracula Untold: Reign of Blood' is the latest haunted house reveal for its upcoming Halloween Horror Nights event (Sept. 19 – Nov. 1). Fans will be able to get a bi-coastal vampire fix; both Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood will be showcasing mazes inspired by Universal Pictures' upcoming epic, "Dracula Untold," which arrives in theaters on Oct. 17.
Horror Nights, the nation's largest Halloween event, continues to expand. Now in its 24th year, 'Dracula Untold' joins huge horror franchises including AMC's 'The Walking Dead,' 'The Purge: Anarchy' and 'Alien vs. Predator' as prime draws for 2014.
The film, starring Luke Evans ('The Hobbit,' 'Clash of the Titans'), taps into the Dracula legend, delving into the life of 13th century ruler Vlad Tepes, the inspiration for Bram Stoker's 'Dracula.' Infamous for skewering his enemies alive, Tepes was known as "Vlad the Impaler." Such imagery is likely to figure prominently.
Michael Aiello, Director of Entertainment – Creative Development for Universal Orlando Resort, is a fan of classic Universal monsters and looks forward to showcasing new facets of vampire lore. He promises guests "pulse-pounding moments" at this year's event, and is certain fans of the film will be thrilled.
John Murdy, Creative Director at Universal Studios Hollywood, claims the Dracula maze will reveal the monster's origin, bringing to life much more of the story than is commonly associated with the monster. When describing the maze, he uses the words "atrocities" and promises a frightening, immersive experience. Those who queue up for the maze before the film's release, teases Aiello, will get "an unprecedented living preview" of the horrors they'll enjoy in the theater.
