I would certainly think you'd have plenty of time! Obviously you won't get TONS of stuff squeezed in there, but certainly enough to make the boys happy. :)

Hey ORTIS!

It depends on what type of park admission you have.

Do you have the "length of stay" passes, or are you using regualr park hoppers?

If your flight is on time, allow 2 hours minimum from landing time to get to the Resort and check in. That puts you at about 2PM. If your room is ready, you can throwe your bags in and run to the MK for 3 hours or so. You need to allow 1/2 hour minimum to get to the MK and back via bus or boat, plus another 1/2 hour to get to Fort Wilderness for the Hoop-Dee-Doo.

That would leave you about 3 hours at the MK. This is GREAT if you have a length of stay pass, but kind of bad if you have a park hopper. You will lose a full day of it for 3 hours at the park.

Keep in mind, the kids may be a little tired after all that travel and just the excitment of being at WDW. You don't want them having a lousy time at the Hoop-Dee-Doo because they are over-tired.

You might be better off just walking around the WL after check-in and relaxing by the pool til dinner. They (and YOU) could even squeeze in a quick nap and be refreshed for the evening out.

Plus...there is lots to see and do at Fort Wilderness. There's even a petting zoo the kids could visit before the HDD show. Don't be afraid to get there a bit early if you want to look around!

My suggestion is to chill out at the resort the first night. Enjoy Fort Wilderness and HDD. See the nightly water pageant from the WL beach and be rested for a FULL day at the MK the next morning. You'll all have a better time if you are well-rested!

Also, PAL MICKEY is available at the Resort Gift Shop (The Mercantile) so you could get him when you arrive and take some time to get familiar with how he works befor eyou get over to the parks.

The important thing is to remmeber to relax and enjoy each other's company at the world's most magical place!
Whatever you decide, your're sure to have a GREAT time!

my question is this........

if you take the kiddo's to the mk on the first day.... do they ever really wanna be anywhere else for the rest of the trip????

i worry that...if i take mine on the first day we are there...she will have no interest in AK MGM or Epcot.....and ill spend the next 8 days dealing with her not wanting to be anywhere else but at MK...

any advice on this??? thanks a bundle in advance :)

We ALWAYS do MK first.... and make many trips back. The kids do love it best, but once they get to the other parks, they have a blast. I don't think you're going to have any trouble. How old is your daughter? IMO, the MK is a must as a first stop with my girls who will be 8, 4, 6, and 20 months on our next trip. This is the way we've always done it though. MK right away! Hope this helps.

Don't know where you are comming in from, but I'll relate my experience. We flew in from NY...had an 8 am flight from LaGuardia. Now it takes us about 2 hrs. to get there from where we live. To allow for check in (July 2001) we left our house at 4 am. Our travel mates left at 3am to get to our house.
2 1/2 hour flight got us to Orlando 10:35...had to get bags, pick up cars drive to WDW. Checked in and had lunch about 1:30-2pm. Everyone ran to the MK. One kid slept right on thru...everyone else was VERY cranky.

My advice to you: check in, have lunch and maybe explore and hit the pool. Do the Hoop De Do...Hit the launch about 1hour prior to showtime and relax. Then to MK in the morning. If the kids don't sleep on the plane plan a nap, too.

Hi there all,What time is your Hoop De Doo dinner at?
Review all the days that you are going to be at Disney. Plan for at least one night to catch the Spectromagic/ Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks. Seeing Tinkerbell fly and set off the fireworks is amazing BUT it is not done every night. Illuminations and Fantasmic!, however are done every night so you have more of a chance to catch those shows. Show days and times are available on the Disneyworld webiste under Park Hours. Simply click on the events link and it will tell you what is going on on each day, or give them a call and they can tell you over the phone.
As far as bringing the kids to Magic Kingdom first, Id say sure, not a big deal, but certainly let them know that you have plans to return as you certainly wont get everything in on the half a day!! I agree with some of the other people on the post, I think each park has its own charm for the kids so I wouldnt worry about 7 days of Magic Kingdom!! Good luck and have fun!! Belle

Great tip there Pumba!!!! If you are staying on property, depending on the time of your Hoop De Doo,I'd say go for it!!! Kinda makes you feel like you have more of a run of the park, plus it is a great way to get on some of the more popular rides without waiting in some very long lines!! Belle

Many guide books recommend doing MK last when traveling with children.

We have always done MK first, and haven't had a problem with kids being "bored" at the other parks. (mine were 5 when they first went)

The point is, there is plenty to see/do in all the parks, and mine never were disappointed.

I always thought it was best to expend all that anticipatory energy at the place they know the most about--MK.

To answer your question, I would play it by ear. If the kids sleep on the plane and seem well rested, you have plenty of time for a quick run through Fantasyland. (or you might just hit the Emporium and get them new t-shirts). Or you can explore Wilderness Lodge--there is quite a lot to see there.

You can get to Ft Wilderness directly from MK--I'd allow at least 30 - 45 minutes.

We always do Disney Studios first because MK is so special and we want to save it. But this year we have a two year old who is totally in love with everything Disney, especially Princesses. I feel we are definitely going to have to do MK first this year and really I cannot wait. Just to see her expression. But with young ones you have to make sure they have their naps. Ours would always fall asleep on the way back to the hotel, so if you go to the park as soon as you get there, be prepared if they fall asleep on the way back and are cranky.

:) :sohappy: :)

my DD will be 6 by the time we get there.....and thanks to you and everyone else that offered advice...i wasnt sure how i was going to keep her away from the castle for too very long...so knowing that other 6 yr olds have enjoyed the other parks post MK eases my worry a bit. i just want the trip to be perfect for her and for all of us...but i dont want to listen to her whining for the next 7 days if i can at all avoid it :)

thanks so much again....
