Should we forgo a rest day to take advantage of the lighter crowds?

What’s up with this phenomenon of Monday being the busiest day of the week? I’ve noticed it as well. One of the most miserable days at the park I had was a random Monday in May.

Im imagine its a combo of the following…

lower tier Keys who are blocked out over the weekend who can’t wait to get back DL

Day ticket holders and other Keys who are doing 3 day weekends.

Casual guests who still think school calendars are what primarily impacts crowd levels.

I think usual logic with themeparks is that weekends are always crowded and "who would go on a Monday". Disney has a weird inverse relationship going on with crowds/calendars where weekends are usually much nicer than weekdays.

Other inverse behavior I've seen is the park being slammed on Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Superbowl Sunday. Everyone assumes those days are going to be dead so show up.

As a former Six Flags employee whos worked Thanksgiving and Superbowl Sunday, it was dead over there.

In people's efforts to beat the crowd they become the crowd.

I don't blame them, I'd always tell my coworkers who would plan to take their family to Disneyland on a random Tuesday to go on a Saturday instead but they thought I was crazy.

The price of the low tier vs higher tier APs is such a huge gap now that it just continues. It seems in Disney's attempt to have balanced crowds year long that they disproportionately filled in weekdays vs weekends.

When planning our trip for October our first though was "Let's go during the week to beat crowds." I think that's everyone's mentality (along with the other explanations given above).

I made sure to try and skip Monday since it has been known to be busy lately. Plus our days coincided with the only availability we could find for a suite across the street.

Is Sunday after Thanksgiving still a good day to go? I’ve had good luck with the Sunday and Monday after Thanksgiving but this year has been kind of unpredictable. My friend and his fam want to go and asked me to pick a good day for them during the Christmas season. Sunday and Monday after Thanksgiving has traditionally had light crowds at DL as many people are traveling or don’t want to go to DL at the tail end of a long break where they may have been traveling.

Is anyone else here the official Disneyland tour guide for all family, distant family and friends?

Don't those people have jobs or school? Who spends a monday at Disneyland?
I made a post a while back trying to answer this with some suggestions as to why kids may not be in school.

Ironically, you gave the only like lol.

Questioning people with jobs is weird though. People do accrue vacation time. I myself am taking a week off of work in two weeks to go to the parks for a couple days.

Forgot to mention another big reason Monday is more crowded is the new pricing tiers for day tickets. If you notice, it’s always the lowest priced days that get booked first.

Disney's plans to spread crowds throughout the week, and make historically busier days a bit lighter, through dynamic pricing and blockouts... works.

That's why Monday is what it is now.

This only explains why Weekdays are busier than weekends but does not explain why Mondays are specifically the busiest day of the week. So it’s more than just that.
